Toroline O-TORO Tour String Review
TOROLINE has made a major impression in the string universe since launching in 2018. One reason for this is O-TORO Tour, which does more than check the typical poly boxes of spin, control and durability. If our playtest crew has it right, this co-poly is exceptional across virtually every poly category. A quick tour of the design explains why. Built with six ultra-sharp edges for bite and a low-friction surface for snapback, O-TORO Tour ranks among the most spin-friendly strings our team has tested. It's also on the firm side of the spectrum, giving it the kind of control that let our crew attack the ball without thinking twice, yet it never felt overly stiff or dead. Granted, O-TORO Tour isn't for everybody, including the beginner who needs more free power or the poly veteran who wants the softest option available. However, for the player who wants to swing big and land the ball inside the lines, O-TORO Tour is a fantastic entry in the ever-expanding string universe.

Breakdown
Control: 9.4
Let's not mince words: O-TORO Tour is a control string. It not only rewards big cuts with effortless accuracy, but the feel, according to Michelle, is also right on the money. She explained, "Once I saw the lab numbers for O-TORO Tour, I realized why I loved this string so much; it has nearly identical numbers to one of my favorite strings, Solinco Hyper-G. The power and control combo is ideal for what I’m looking for, with a focus on control. All that control really allowed me to feel completely comfortable hitting out and going for my big shots. I felt like I could step up and generate as much power as I wanted. I loved how the string offered consistent, reliable levels of control throughout the playtest. There is an elastic feel that I really like from TOROLINE O-TORO strings because I have more pocketing on my stringbed and can feel the ball sink into my strings. That translates into having access to all the power I need, and the control is built in when I spit the ball back out. I found great synergy between these two characteristics."
"The hexagonal shape of O-TORO Tour added to the effectiveness of my topspin, so I felt like I could get that added control to get the ball to dip down quickly."'
Troy also gave O-TORO Tour high marks for control. He said, "I kind of had some preconceived notions about this string thanks to the conversations I had with Eric at TOROLINE about why they were making a Tour version and what type of player it was best suited for. In terms of power versus control, O-TORO Tour felt crisp and controlled. Comparing it to other TOROLINE strings, like O-TORO in orange and Wasabi in neon pink, I noticed a firmer, crisper feel, which resulted in a high level of control. I would say this string definitely gave me plenty of confidence and is right up there with some of my favorite polys in terms of control and predictability."
Spin: 9.2
With its shaped profile and powerful snapback, O-TORO Tour grabs and rotates the ball with ease. It also performed impressively in our lab friction tests, with higher spin numbers than some of the most popular polys on the market, such as Babolat RPM Blast, Luxilon ALU Power and Solinco Hyper-G. Needless to say, Troy found O-TORO Tour very spin-friendly. He described, "I liked the added spin I was getting from this string. The hexagonal profile and sharp little edges helped me grip the ball and get that baby spinning. While O-TORO Tour grabbed the felt of the ball aggressively, it wasn't so sharp that it created too much friction between the mains and crosses. So all in all, O-TORO Tour helped me maximize the topspin and slice on my groundstrokes."

Although her game doesn't rely on a ton of spin, Michelle appreciated how well O-TORO Tour grabbed and rotated the ball. She said, "We know that I am never the one generating the most spin on the playtest team, but that doesn't mean I don't lean into my spinny shots from time to time. I was thrilled with the bite from O-TORO Tour, which helped me keep the ball deep, but still inside the lines. I also really appreciated the extra spin when serving, whether on a wide deuce slice serve or a kicker to the T. I have also been using racquets in the 330 to 335 swingweight range, which is just enough to allow me to access great angles (especially on the TW court and especially in dingles!), and I loved doing just that with O-TORO Tour. I was pretty surprised when I looked at the lab data and saw the spin number was a little higher than Hyper-G; personally, it felt easily on par, but again, I am not pushing the RPM limits."
Feel: 8.3
While the high stiffness of polyester monofilaments provides a major boost in control, it usually comes at the expense of comfort. According to Michelle, O-TORO Tour avoids this trade-off. She said, “You expect a really stiff feel when you've got a string with such solid control, but that's not what you get with O-TORO Tour. It played softer than our lab stiffness rating would indicate. I keep using the phrase 'a more elastic feel' but not 'trampoline-y.' For what O-TORO Tour offers, I thought it felt very comfortable."
"I also found O-TORO Tour to have a bit more comfort and pocketing than some of the deader strings I typically use."
Troy was also impressed by O-TORO Tour's feel. He said, "TOROLINE O-TORO Tour was nice and crisp. It reminded me a lot of one of our playtester favorites, Volkl Cyclone. O-TORO Tour is a little firmer and more controlled, but they both provide the crisp and connected feel that I like in my strings. That said, O-TORO Tour doesn't feel overly stiff, but it is definitely firmer than the original O-TORO, which feels more elastic and muted. It's also firmer than Wasabi, which feels soft and a bit muted for a poly."
Playability Duration: 7.9
Although O-TORO Tour loses tension over time, our playtesters found that it maintained its playing characteristics surprisingly well throughout the multi-week playtest. Michelle was impressed, noting, "For me, the playability duration was great. Sure, I noticed the tension dropping a bit after a week or two of solid use, but I loved that the features of this string did not change. So even after two weeks of use, I still found all the access to control and that same great pocketing. If anything, the string pocketed even better once it bagged out a little. Strings will often become unpredictable for me at this point, but I didn't have that issue with O-TORO Tour, thankfully!"

"So far the tension maintenance has been pretty good," added Troy. "I tried this string in various racquets over the month-long playtest and also restrung a couple of them. I think the longest I had O-TORO Tour in one of my racquets was about three weeks, which was probably around 15 hours of hitting with it. I noticed the typical drop in tension for sure, probably after like 10 hours, but it wasn't a huge detriment to performance. I could still control my shots for the most part, and it was more of a sensation that the string lost a little bit of pop or energy return. Some of that nice crisp feel of a fresh set of string wasn't quite there anymore."

Michelle
I definitely would suggest O-TORO Tour to a seasoned poly player (not someone just trying poly for the first time) and anyone who is looking for a more comfortable control-oriented string. I also think this is such a fun string to hybrid- with another poly, natural gut, a multi or however you can dream up a fun combo! The string it is most similar to is probably Solinco Hyper-G. Both of these strings are amazing and offer everything I could possibly want: loads of control and consistent playability! The feel of O-TORO Tour is similar to O-TORO, but with more access to control.
Great feel and awesome control. O-TORO Tour gave me enough confidence to take full cuts. Good playability duration and the color is super fun!
None to report; I made O-TORO Tour my string of choice after a month of using it, and I love it!

O-TORO Tour reminds me of Volkl Cyclone (17/1.25mm) but with a slightly deader, more controlled response. I find a bit more liveliness or energy return from Volkl Cyclone. I think that TOROLINE makes a lot of good poly options that are approachable and friendly to players who are new to polys or are more arm sensitive to stiff strings. O-TORO Tour, though, is more of the seasoned poly player's kind of string. I think players who are strong intermediates to advanced (I would say like a 4.5 NTRP and above) who know that they like a crisper, firmer feeling string should take O-TORO Tour for a test drive.
I like just about everything about O-TORO Tour. The control is great, and it has some nice grip on the ball from its sharp hexagonal profile. I like the crisper feel compared to some of the softer poly options from TOROLINE.
Tension maintenance is pretty decent; I wouldn’t say excellent but also not really a big downside either. I guess my only thing I could try to nitpick with this string is that I wish TOROLINE had a couple other gauges for me to try; sometimes I like to go really thin in an 18x20 racquet, and if it is a really open string pattern, sometimes I like to go thicker like 1.30 mm.
