ProKennex Ki Q+ Tour (305g) 16x19 Review

Although the Ki Q+ Tour (305g) 16x19 isn’t overly powerful, our two testers could comfortably go after their shots thanks to this racquet's massive comfort, reliable feel and control-oriented nature. Troy said, "The plush feel and precision felt great when I was hitting my groundstrokes with this Ki Q+ Tour (305g) 16x19. The sensation on contact was super smooth, plush and dampened when I was hitting from the baseline. I will admit that the Kinetic Quadfocus technology creates a highly dampened feel (common among ProKennex racquets) that can be a downer for some players, but this racquet still maintained plenty of control. I could swing out on my forehand and they would land deep in the court with heavy topspin. I found that the combination of the openly spaced string pattern and the kinetic technology made for some extra launch when I hit hard with a flatter trajectory. This racquet allowed me to be very precise with my placement, and it meshed well with my craftiness -- slice, drop shots, placement -- so when I needed to unleash my weapon and go big on my forehand, I could do so with confidence."

Munish felt comfortable going after his shots, and he found a surprising amount of spin from the Ki Q+ Tour (305g) 16x19. He said, "There was not a whole lot of power from this racquet, which was expected. What wasn't expected was the spin potential. I was getting good bite on the ball, but because there wasn't a whole lot of plow through on the racquet, I found that my shots were landing short quite often. I'm considering some customization to the hoop to add more plow through, but I otherwise liked the racquet. The racquet feels very stable and cuts through the air really fast, and that suits my game very well. It was easy to control the ball and go for my shots without the fear of mishitting or overhitting."

Up at net, the Ki Q+ Tour (305g) 16x19 proved to be reliable and precise, letting our playtesters volley with ease. Troy enjoyed how the Ki Q+ Tour (305g) 16x19 absorbed pace at net, and the comfort/stability mix allowed him to place drop volleys on a dime. He noted, “This racquet gave me a lot of confidence when I went to the net. I found a good amount of stability when fending off hard hit shots, and the level of plushness was top tier. One thing I really look for nowadays is how well my racquet absorbs shock, specifically when I miss the sweetspot on my volleys, and this racquet is amazing at that. One of my favorite racquets to hit volleys with is the Wilson Pro Staff 97 Classic, and I feel like this Ki Q+ Tour (305g) 16x19 racquet is just as stable and precise, but with better comfort on my hand and wrist. The open string patten allowed me to carve the back of the ball with a lot spin, and because the racquet felt pretty soft, I was easily able to execute drop volleys."

Munish had a great time volleying with the Ki Q+ Tour 16x19, and he felt very connected to the ball. He explained, "One of the biggest criticisms I have about ProKennex racquets is that the Kinetic chambers take away from the feel of the racquet way too much. This wasn't the case with this racquet, and I was able to hit a variety of shots up at net. I want to highlight how maneuverable it actually is because I was never late to any ball when volleying, even when hitting with some of the bigger hitters on the team. I do wish there was a bit more plow through because I didn't feel like I was hitting very penetrating shots."

Our team found good precision and excellent comfort when serving with the Ki Q+ Tour (305g) 16x19, and like the rest of the playtest, these traits allowed them to go after their shots with ease. Munish, however, struggled a bit with the lower-powered nature of the racquet. He said, "I took the biggest hit when I was serving with the Ki Q+ Tour (305g) 16x19. I was hitting my spots, but due to the lack of easy power, I wasn't getting any free points. I had to be more conscious about placement and spin in order to get the upper hand in a point."

Troy found more pop on his serve than he anticipated. He explained, “I found this ProKennex Ki Q+ Tour (305) 16x19 to give me great precision and easy access to spin on my serve. I would say this racquet performed fairly similar to the Mizuno Acrostrike 305 or Tecnifibre TF40 305g (16x19). I had good precision and easy spin with all three of these racquets, but I also noticed some nice pop and energy return when I went for a big serve with the Ki Q+ Tour (305) 16x19. This helped me to use my lefty serves well, and I could generate some sharp angles to pull my opponents off the court. So overall, I would say mixing up my spots, hitting my serves with a lot of spin and using my variety worked well when serving with this racquet. Every now and then this racquet surprised me with some nice, heavy pace on a flat one."

Returning serves with the Ki Q+ Tour (305g) 16x19 was characterized by its comfort and reliable control. Troy appreciated the precision and comfort once more on returns, but he noted a lack of depth at times. He said, "This racquet felt nice and smooth when I was striking my returns. I felt like I could redirect hard serves cleanly and smoothly, and it provided great comfort on my arms and wrists. I could attack the ball with my forehand return with good pace and depth. Because this racquet is lighter and shorter than my customized Yonex EZONE 98+ (2025 version), I felt like it lacked a bit of plow through on my backhand returns, and it wasn't as easy to get the ball deep. Slice returns felt precise, and they stayed low to the ground, but I felt like the depth didn't come as easily. I think this racquet could benefit from a bit more weight; I would likely add about 10-15 grams overall, maybe a leather grip and a bit of weight at 3/9 o'clock, with hopes of getting easier depth and plow through."

Munish also had some issues with depth, but he did appreciate the easy spin and the freedom to swing out. He said, "I was swinging out on my returns more than usual due to the lower powered nature of the Ki Q+ Tour (305g) 16x19. My only problem was that I wasn't necessarily attacking second serves well. I usually depend on penetrating spinny returns deep into the center of the court, but getting the extra depth was hard. Thankfully, spin generation wasn't an issue."
