Experienced players looking to overwhelm their opponents with power and spin will love this new addition to the Ultra family

Introducing the Ultra 99 Pro! With this racquet, Wilson digs into the archive, using the same mold as the popular Steam 99. Defined by its stiff and tapered beam, the Ultra 99 Pro is a study in power and stability. It also features an open 16x18 string pattern, giving you the tools to hit heavy, spin-loaded shots. Other features include a 330 swingweight, which not only helps keep the racquet steady against big hitters but also delivers impressive power to those who can leverage its mass. Technologies include Wilson's revolutionary SI3D layup technology, which helps give this powerful racquet enhanced pocketing and spin. This stick also features inner hoop power grooves to increase the ability of the strings to absorb shock and transfer energy to the ball. Ultimately, this new addition to the Ultra family delivers an impressive combination of power, spin, and plow-through. Experienced players looking to overwhelm their opponents with power and spin will love this one.

Plays kind of like the BladeFor some reason, this new Ultra v5 Pro 99 played better in singles than doubles for me. For groundstrokes, this new Ultra felt like playing like the Blade v9, where you definitely need to put that “umph” at times into your shots despite it supposedly being an Ultra and suppose to be their power racquet line. At times, this racquet can be erratic and fly all over on you, so it's definitely recommended to string higher in tension for better control, and because it's a 16x18, as the reviews say, the strings do tend to get loose and you do have to adjust them in between points. Slices and Serve for this ultra played very nice for me. Volleys on the other than, like I said, plays like the Blade so you will need to put more of that plow through umph at times. Despite all this, this new ultra is definitely fun to play with because of its uniqueness. I strung it with ALU Power @ 56lbs, and can't say it enough, it definitely reminded me of playing like the Blade with its “plush” feeling with a dampener at times and with the right technique, hitting the ball with this ultra feels really satisfying!

A more lively BladeI’ve been quite pleased with v9 Blades since their release. Admittedly, I bounce between the 98 16x19s and the 100. The 100 gives a little more free power and spin. The 98 is for times when a little more control and consistency helps. The Ultra Pro 99 is the most lively of the three. It gives a little more spin and just a tad more power than the Blade 100. The string bed yields a slightly softer sensation as the string spacing opens up a little more once you get past dead center. It is a lot of fun to play with. The stock swingweight is great… high 320s. The total weight and recoil weight felt too low. So I added 9 grams to the inside of the handle. The Pro version is quite striking. The gloss finish is gorgeous.
