Overview

Made in Austria, the Head Vilas is a classic from the late 70s. The racquet of choice for South American grand slam champion Guillermo Vilas, this one is a graphite/wood composite. Our samples are in good condition and do not show signs of being played. Not only a great collectible but also a blast to have around as an occasional hitter. Feels firmer and more modern than the flex would indicate. Grip will likely need to be replaced.

Comments: Loved hitting with this. I bought a Vilas and a Wilson Advantage last month and am very happy. As a 53 year old who started playing with wood, it is great to recapture the experience of how tennis felt as a teenager. I do enjoy the amazed comments I get on court as to how anyone could hit a decent ball with these things. They don't realize though that when you get a wood racquet in near new condition, put modern strings in it as well as a dampener and overgrip, then you have a weighty weapon that plays great. My serve struggles a bit to whip up on the ball and get a safe kick serve in but the groundstrokes feel superb. I'm not sure that tennis ever feels as sweet as a groundie middled sweetly with a wood racquet forged by long lost skills. I hope TW may have some unused Jack Kramer Pro Staffs to release from the vault soon. If I could play with Mcenroe's 1980 model that would be as good as it gets.
