The Babolat Pure Drive Spectra 9 Pack Tennis Bag features a bold cosmetic with smart features. Style over functionI've had variants of the Babolat Pure Drive and Pure Aero bags - my latest was the Pure Drive 98 9-pack bag. The 9 pack seems the Goldilocks of bags for me. Not too small like a 6 pack but not too big like the 12 packers. My review is based on a comparison of the former PD98 9 pack to the 9 pack Spectra Edition. First, the Spectra is bigger. The main compartment is huge. I questioned if this wasn't actually a 12 pack bag when I first saw it. And the holographic style color scheme is very cool. When the sunlight hits it just right, it radiates its rainbow like effect. I haven't been able to recreate where it glows white hot like I've seen on social media but it is quite unique nonetheless. Second, I'm disappointed that the silver thermal lining has been deleted from this bag. Maybe it was a cost cutting decision but I appreciated having the thermal liner especially living in hot Texas climate. Let's get to the racquet pockets. They seem smaller. Trying to put two sticks in snug. I guess if you widen the center compartment - something has to give? Moving to the outside accessory side pockets. Those too seem smaller. On my former PD98 9 packer, the outside side pockets offered good space to throw just about anything short of shoes, clothes or racquet in them. But I was able to toss rolls of overgrip, electrolytes, tape, etc. with little to not issue. Now I can only fit a portion of those items and the rest I have to throw into the shoe/clothes pocket which is huge in the Spectra bag. I don't ever throw wet clothes or my shoes in that pocket (that would get nasty imho) so it's now my "other" tennis junk compartment. The main compartment holds my shoes, tennis balls (lots of them) and extra clothes, towels, etc. That compartment is cavernous. I could probably throw racquets in there too but seriously, if I have 4 racquets, that's plenty for me. The fact that the bag can stand upright IS one improvement I do appreciate. So that is a nice upgrade in that regard. Lastly, the straps. I'm not a fan of the current design of the straps. There's too many straps on top and on the bottom. I feel like Babolat should pack a manual with this many adjustments. It never feels quite close to my back like the former back. the shoulder pads are fine but it never feels ideally fitted. The former was never this complicated and worked fine. Wished Babolat kept it that way. In conclusion, do I hate the new Spectra bag? No. It's fine. It's cool looking and holds my gear as needed. Is it a great bag? No. It has some flaws. Nothing I cannot overcome but it seems like they took things that worked and either eliminated them like the thermal liner or changed them like the straps. Will I keep the bag? Of course. It's a cool bag and I've had several people on court ask me about it. I didn't get it to grab attention but there it is. The outside styling with it's holographic like effect is eye-catching. I just wished the function was a bit more on par with the former bag I had.
