Summary

A maneuverable player's racquet loaded with spin potential and ample power, the Volkl Super G 10 Mid 320 deserves a serious look. This lighter version of the Super G 10 Mid offers a speedy, spin-friendly response and is a great option for players who want the feel and precision of a player's racquet without the heavy weight. With the Super G grommet system, this racquet remains comfortably crisp and offers the signature Volkl feel. It has been updated with longer main strings to help the 96 square inch headsize feel stable and forgiving. The playtester chatter from this playtest was all positive, noting this racquet's outstanding maneuverability, phenomenal feel, great spin potential and precision. Players who love smaller head sizes will want to take advantage of the Super G 10 Mid 320's larger sweetspot and its excellent spin and power.

Players are constantly looking for the elusive racquet that offers just the right blend of power and control in a comfortable setup. Volkl has come pretty close to just that with the Super G 10 Mid 320. Chris felt at home with this racquet from the first hit. He explained, "It felt fast through the strike zone, and I felt like I could add pace or spin at will. The response was crisp and clean, yet this racquet felt very comfortable. We hit this one with some stiff co-poly strings, such as Prince Tour XC, and the racquet still offered good comfort. I felt very connected to what was going on and could predict depth and direction well. I liked how easy it was to roll an angle or add some extra spin to a lob with this racquet. My passing shots had good pace; I could hit with low effort on long rallies, and I also enjoyed good feel on my touch shots."

Noting a harmonious blend of comfort, spin, power and stability, Sebastian said, "The combination of those factors allowed me to aggressively go for my shots with confidence. The racquet was also very maneuverable, which helped me swing through my shots with ease. It allowed me to stay aggressive even when I was hitting my shots on the run."

Karly used this racquet's predecessor, the Volkl Organix 10 Mid, as her main racquet for a while so she was really looking forward to getting her hands on this Super G version. She reported, "Right off the bat the differences were pretty noticeable, the biggest being easier access to power and a stiffer feel with this update. This Super G 10 still offered good control and felt comfortable on my arm, but it felt livelier and had a quicker response than the previous version. The bigger head-size and higher RA flex rating had the ball popping off the strings with a more powerful feel, but it still had enough weight behind it for plenty of stability, plow through and good momentum. Once I started my stroke it was extremely easy to whip the racquet around and drive through the ball. Even though I personally preferred the older model because it offered more control and had a more dampened feel on contact, the Super G 10 Mid 320 is still a great all-around racquet."

"I enjoyed the really fast racquet head speed that I had with this racquet, which enabled me to get great access to spin and power," said Marco. "I could get this racquet under low balls and really get the lift and trajectory I needed. I had the confidence to take full swings with this racquet and get the power and control I'm used to. I preferred a softer, thinner, shaped poly in this frame rather than thicker, round, firm polys because the softer setup gave me a much more pocketed feel and increased the amount of control I could get with this racquet."

Volleys - Score: 83

The quickness of the Super G 10 Mid 320 was also very noticeable when our playtesters took their game to the net. Sebastian particularly enjoyed this racquet at the net because of its exceptional maneuverability. He said, "Because the Super G 10 Mid 320 weighs just under 12 ounces and has a swingweight of 320 I was able to react quickly and adjust the position of my racquet accordingly. Overall, I was able to hit my volleys with great precision, allowing me to go for my volleys with a lot confidence during my playtest. I especially enjoyed using this racquet during doubles play."

The tremendous stability and solid feel of the Super G 10 Mid 320 were the outstanding features for Karly at net. She explained, "This racquet had enough mass to keep it from fluttering in my hand on contact. I also found a good combination of control and power. The Super G 10 Mid 320 made it easy for me to move it into place and punch an aggressive volley away. I had no complaints using this racquet at net because of how easy it was to use."

Marco agreed that the impressive maneuverability made the Super G 10 Mid 320 easy to use at net. He said, "It might not have the mass in the head to really punch the ball, but the more I played with it the easier it became to really carve out volleys and place the ball with precision. I want to experiment with a bit of lead tape at 10 and 2, which would give a bit more stick to my volleys and provide a more comfortable response on off-center shots."

"This racquet worked well for me at net. It didn't have quite the feel or plush response of the 330g version, but it felt very crisp and precise," said Chris. "It felt like the ball was getting in and out of the stringbed quickly, and that gave the racquet a very direct point-and-shoot feel. I was able to snap volleys away well. Anything left floating high could immediately be dispatched with solid pace and excellent control."

Serves - Score: 85

The Super G 10 Mid 320's power really shone through when it came to serving. Karly had an easy time generating pace on her serves - more so than from any other area of the court, and she had PlaySight data to back it up. She explained, "I recorded my fastest serve to-date with this racquet. The combination of the lively feel, good maneuverability and sufficient mass to drive through the ball made it easy to hit with power. It also provided exceptional access to spin, which I could rely on to keep my second serves from going long. Normally I like racquets that have more precision, but hitting aggressive first serves to get on the offensive quickly felt great, too."

Marco couldn't find anything to knock when it came to serving. He said, "This racquet provided the ability to hit all my serves, from my kick serve with plenty of spin to my flat T bomb, and with accuracy. I got as much spin on my kick serve as I have with any racquet in the past, and by the same token, I received ample power when I got up and really hit my first serve."

Chris enjoyed serving with this racquet, however, he was hitting a bigger, heavier serve with the 330g version. He said, "I'm tempted to add a leather grip to this one (which accounts for the 10g difference between the two) to see what I can get out of it. With its stiffer beam, I'm guessing this one will get me more mph and an even heavier delivery. Left in stock form, however, it was still plenty good enough. I found it easy to serve with variety, as all of my serves were working nicely."

Sebastian hoped for a bit more power and stability on his first serves, but he enjoyed the spin levels. He said, "Again, I loved the maneuverability of the Super G 10 Mid 320 but didn't quite get the speed on my serves I was hoping for. I did enjoy the higher trajectory I was able to put on the ball when I was going for heavy kick serves, and I really liked being able to generate lots of spin."

Returns - Score: 83

Our team of playtesters continued to appreciate the quick, precise power of the Super G 10 Mid 320 when returning serves. Being able to place the racquet into position quickly was a real plus for Marco, who said, "I found that the racquet was very stable when I was hitting returns. When I got stretched wide and had to play a defensive slice return I had more control with this racquet than I had with a lot of other racquets I've hit with."

The easy access to spin and the fast, light feel made this a nice racquet for Chris to execute his returns with. He commented, "I felt like I was fast enough with it to take a good cut at a lot of serves. I also found this racquet to feel pretty solid when I only had enough time to punch back faster serves. My chip backhand was working well. While I prefer the silkier response of the more flexible and heavier 330g version, this racquet rewarded me with excellent crispness and a very direct feel. The firmer response added to this racquet's faster feel. Combined with the lighter and slightly easier to maneuver weight, the crisp response got the ball in and out of the stringbed very quickly. The result was a much faster racquet to return with, as it just felt like everything came together in a more compact and quicker manner. I was able to find my targets well and felt confident driving through the ball. Most impressively, I never felt any undue shock, even when I hit the ball slightly off center with with a stiffer string in the racquet."

"I really liked the response from this racquet when I was hitting returns of serve," said Sebastian. "I did enjoy the fast feel and the ability to swing through the return quickly even when my opponents were serving with a lot of pace. While the Super G 10 Mid 320 was lacking a bit of stability, the overall comfort and the ability to accelerate through my returns with confidence allowed me to go for my returns of serve and maintain accuracy and precision."

Again, Karly really loved the exceptional stability and good maneuverability of the Super G 10 Mid 320. She said, "I rarely felt pushed around on returns because this racquet allowed me to set up in time to hit a powerful shot back. Even if I wasn't able to get into position quickly, I thought this racquet's lively response helped the ball jump off the stringbed for good power. I did have to be careful not to send my returns long. Luckily, though, the Super G 10 Mid 320 offered good spin potential as well, so I could rely on topspin to help keep the ball in play."

Likes

Chris - "I liked the spin, the blend of stability/maneuverability and the very crisp and direct feeling response. The Super G 10 Mid 320 feels like a great option for a player seeking a modern player's racquet -- lots of control, but with some added power and maneuverability from a stiffer beam."

Sebastian - "I loved the blend of comfort, spin, power and stability. This is a great all-around performance racquet."

Karly - "I liked how comfortable it felt on my arm for being a stiffer, more stable racquet."

Marco - "Great maneuverability, there was easy access to power and control with this frame."

Dislikes

Chris - "None really, but I can't decide which I prefer more, this or the classic feel of the Super G 10 Mid 330."

Sebastian - "No real dislikes. Overall, the Super G 10 Mid 320 is a very solid racquet; just no real standout feature for me."

Karly - "There wasn't anything that I necessarily disliked about this racquet, but I did prefer playing with the older version more because it offered more control."

Marco - "I prefer the slightly more rounded frame shapes; this was a bit too oval for me, and I found the sweetspot running more from 6 to 12 than from 3 to 9."

Comparing the racquet to others they've tried, our testers said:

Chris - "Two other options that offer a similar modern player's racquet response are the Wilson Pro Staff 97 and Yonex VCORE Tour 97 310g. Both of those offer a similarly crisp and clean response."

Sebastian - "I found the Super G 10 Mid 320 played like the Tecnifibre TFight 315 Dynacore. I did, however, prefer the Super G 10 Mid 320 because of its forgiving sweetspot and overall great comfort."

Karly - "I thought the Super G 10 Mid 320 played noticeably different from the previous version, the Volkl Organix 10 Mid. Not only was the head size slightly larger, but the RA rating was also stiffer, giving it a livelier feel with easier access to power. They were similar in terms of maneuverability and stability, but I thought the Super G 10 Mid 320 felt more powerful because the Organix racquet had a more dampened response."

Marco - "I likened the maneuverability and feel to the Tecnifibre TFight 315 Dynacore, which gave me the racquet head speed similar to this Volkl. A racquet that offered similar ball pocketing for me was the Yonex Tour F (290g)."
