Head Revolt Pro 2 Men's Shoe Review
Summary
Building off the success of the original Revolt Pros, the Revolt Pro 2s provide loads of support and plush cushioning for the avid tennis player. This update features a couple of tweaks that are subtle, yet noticeable, improvements. First, the uppers are slightly softer and more ventilated for better step-in comfort. Second, the fit has widened slightly to be more accommodating to different foot types. The design is still a little bulky in nature, but most of our team didn't mind a little added weight considering the amount of cushioning, stability and durability these shoes provided. Players looking for tons of support and/or tons of cushioning should consider giving the Revolt Pro 2s a try!

Comfort - Score: 4.4
Our team found the Revolt Pro 2s to be very comfortable on court. Chris had to adjust his sizing to get a good fit, but once he did he was very pleased. "First things first; I moved up a half-size to get a proper fit in the Revolt Pro 2s," he said. "I have skinny feet so width wasn't an issue, but my toes were up against the ends of the shoes and I needed a little more length. With the fit sorted out I found the Revolt Pro 2s instantly comfortable. They required pretty much no break in, and I was playing comfortably in them within the first hour. The level of cushioning felt plush and the uppers featured a lot of padding to comfort my feet. I found enough support for my arches and thought the shoes flexed and moved well with my feet."
Jason knew from the start of the playtest that he was going enjoy the ride in these shoes. He praised, "From the initial step in, I knew these were going to be really comfortable shoes. There is plenty of cushioning in the midsole and the plush padding in the tongue and ankle collar made them very comfortable to play in. Both the ventilation in the uppers and the fit were improved in this update, and I had no problems with the shoes feeling too narrow for my E width feet."
Andy found these Revolt Pro 2s to be a little bit stiff at first, but after a short time on court they softened up and proved to be very comfortable. He explained, "While they're a little bit stiff and bulky right out of the box, I ultimately found these shoes to be very comfortable during play. There's ample padding and cushioning all around the feet, giving them a soft, 'pillowy' feel once they break in and soften up a bit. They run a little bit warm, but the lack of ventilation never affected the overall performance. Lastly, there's some nice rigidity through the midfoot that provided more than enough arch support during play."
Mark has been very pleased with the comfort of recent Head shoes he's tested, and these were no exception. He raved, "In terms of comfort, the last couple of shoes that I have tested from Head have been top notch, and with this playtest I was again treated to a high degree of 'right out of the box' comfort. After more than 40 hours of play in the Revolt Pro 2s, their comfort level has not diminished at all."
Foot Support/Stability - Score: 4.3
Other than a minor fit issue around the heel, the Revolt Pro 2s provided plenty of support and stability for our playtesters throughout the test. "One of the strengths of these shoes proved to be support and stability," Andy praised. "The design is certainly a little bit bulky, but I did get plenty of protection for my aggressive on-court movements. When I was moving around -- and even sliding -- at top speeds I had complete confidence that the shoes would protect my feet and ankles. These shoes provided more than enough lateral stability, and even though the fit is a little bit roomy I still felt plenty locked-in during play."
A big reason why Mark liked these shoes so much was the level of confidence he had moving around in them. He explained, "The high level of comfort is part and parcel to their high level of support. I never once experienced any foot fatigue after long matches or multiple hard stops. Even after lots of hard court play, the upper have maintained their shape and support."
Jason found the fit to be a little sloppy in the rear of the shoes, and he never felt truly locked in and supported. He said, "I thought the shoes provided plenty of stability when moving side to side. The downside for me here was the heel slippage. Because the tongue and ankle collar have so much cushioning, when I tried to cinch down my laces all it would do was compress the cushioning. After 20 minutes of hitting the laces would become too loose and I could basically slide my feet out without untying the laces. These shoes weren't the best for pushing off and taking an initial explosive step. Side to side stability and support was very good, though."
Chris had a similar experience. He shared, "Apart from the fit being a little too wide around the heel, these shoes supported my feet well. I had some minor heel slippage from time to time, but for the most part I was able to get the laces tight enough through the last eyelets to make the shoes fit more securely. The midfoot and forefoot areas offered me a more secure fit, and I was able to move at full speed and not worry about sliding around inside those parts of the shoes."
Overall Sole Durability - Score: 4.5
Everyone was impressed by how well the Revolt Pro 2s held up during our test. Chris thought they compared favorably to other shoes in their weight class. He explained, "The outsoles held up better than I expected. I saw some wear under my big toes, but I still had plenty of outsole left to wear through at the end of the test. These shoes were right up there with other durability shoes, such as the current adidas Barricade Boosts and Asics Gel Resolution 7s. The toes also lasted very well. I tend to drag the lateral side of the toe on my left shoe when pulled wide on the backhand side, and these shoes resisted wear very well."
Mark put a good amount of time in his pair, and the Revolt Pro 2s held up nicely. He shared, "Although my Revolt Pro 2s are nearing the end of their life cycle, I will continue to wear them because the break down of the toe area has been relatively slow and pretty even. I am glad these shoes include a sole warranty. With the way I typically wear down tennis shoes I would expect the Revolt Pro 2s to last me about four months of hard, consistent play."
Andy had trouble doing any sort of noticeable damage to his pair. He praised, "I put about 20-30 hours of good wear on my pair during this playtest, and there's still plenty of life left in them. The deep tread pattern on the outsole has yet to start balding, while the upper material is well-protected with some additional TPU material. There's some scuffing on the medial side where the shoes contact the hard court when I slide, but the extra rubber in that area should continue to hold up well enough. Players who are especially hard on their shoes will be pleased with the resiliency of the Revolt Pro 2s."
"Impressive durability," Jason added. "I put about 12 hours on these shoes and could not put a dent in them."
Traction - Score: 4.3
The outsoles on the Revolt Pro 2s performed well on all the courts we tested them on. Jason was confidently moving around the court in them, and he shared, "In the instances where I was needing to stop and change direction quickly, the shoes provided the needed traction. Also, the outsole wasn't so sticky that it wouldn't give at all, so it never caused me to catch an edge and roll my ankle."
"I liked moving around the court Revolt Pro 2s," Chris complimented. "The level of traction was very trustworthy. I found all the traction I needed to make an aggressive lateral cut, come to a quick stop or push off for a fast first step. I was impressed by how solid the level of traction remained throughout the test."
Mark tested these shoes on both hard and clay courts, and he was very happy with the traction on both surfaces. He raved, "I did spend some time on a Har-Tru court during this test and the modified herringbone tread pattern worked well, providing good traction during play and an easy dispersal of the clay. Most of the time I was playing on a hard court surface, though, where I was very confident changing directions throughout the entire playtest."
"The outsoles provided a very nice blend of grip and give -- locking up with the court when I needed it to yet still allowing me to go for my aggressive slides with confidence," Andy shared. "I had a couple instances when I slipped and lost my footing, but there were certainly no major issues here."
Weight - Score: 3.5
A heavier feel on court was the trade-off for the good cushioning and supportive feel of the Revolt Pro 2s. "The Revolt Pro 2s are not lightweight speed shoes. They are built to last and offer a lot of comfort," Chris explained. "With that in mind, I thought any weight these shoes had was more than justified. I still felt fast in the Revolt Pro 2s. I wouldn't pick them for a sprint contest when running lines on the court, but I moved well enough in them to play aggressively."
"These shoes definitely felt weighty and bulky," Jason agreed. "The weight of the shoes was something that I would think about during play. I felt like I was a step slow getting to the ball with these on."
Echoing the others was Andy, who shared, "These shoes did feel heavy and bulky on my feet when I was on court. They moved well with my feet and provided plenty of protection, so I never really felt like they slowed me down. However, the boxy design is not going to win over players who tend toward more speed-oriented shoes."
Mark felt very fast and comfortable in these shoes, even given their static weight. He praised, "Even though they weigh in on the heavy side, I could easily maneuver around the tennis court in them. I appreciated the level of stability these shoes offered, even with the added weight."

Chris- "A true jack-of-all-trades, the Revolt Pro 2s did everything well. I found enough traction and support, and my feet felt comfortable. The durability was very impressive."
Jason- "Very comfortable, well-padded shoes. Great outsole durability with a six-month guarantee."
Andy- "Tons of support and stability! Comfortable, well-cushioned and durable as well."
Mark- "Out of the box comfort that lasted throughout the test. The Revolt Pro 2s were comfortable and let me move around the court the way I wanted to."
Dislikes
Chris- "They fit a little loose at the heels for me."
Jason- "The Revolt Pro 2s feel a bit overbuilt. I had heel slippage issues stemming from not being able to really cinch down my laces."
Andy- "A bit bulky in design. They also ran hot during play."
Mark- "The rear portion looks pretty thick, making the heel cup a little wider than average. This was an aesthetic thing for me, though, and did not negatively affect the performance in any way."
Comparing the shoe to others they've tried, our testers said:
Chris- "The Revolt Pro 2s reminded me of a more modern and more comfortable version of the Prince T22s. They felt a bit more performance-oriented, but like the T22s, the Revolt Pro 2s do everything well enough to satisfy a wide variety of players."
Jason- "The Revolt Pro 2s feel wider and better ventilated than the original Revolt Pro. They have a very similar ride to the Prince T22s and KSwiss Ultrascendors."
Andy- "These are nice shoes for two types of players -- those who want maximum support and stability and those who place a premium on cushioning. The Revolt Pro 2s don't feel quite as fast or as low to the ground as the adidas Barricade 2017, but they do offer a slightly wider fit for players who want that type of feel but can't squeeze their feet into the narrow midfoot of the Barricade. The Revolt Pro 2s would also please the Prince T22 or KSwiss Hypercourt Express customer. While they won't be quite as soft right out of the box, they will offer good cushioning and better support and stability."
Mark- "When I first slipped in to the Revolt Pro 2s they reminded me of the older iteration of the Prince T22s and, believe it or not, the iconic K-Swiss Ultrascendors. After all these years we still receive emails and calls regarding which shoes are going to be like the Ultrascendors, so any player who loved those two shoes will probably be very happy with the new Revolt Pro 2s."
