Tecnifibre Tecni Spin String Review
Summary
Born of a collaboration between Tecnifibre and the Tennis Warehouse playtest team, Tecni Spin was developed over a lengthy period of testing. It shares its square profile with Tecnifibre's 4S, but it is less stiff, giving it slightly better feel and touch. Make no mistake, though, this is not a soft, category-busting co-poly. It delivers a firm, controlled response that helps big swingers find their target effortlessly, aided by exceptional spin potential. Equally impressive is the playability duration, with our crew reporting zero control problems over the length of the test. That said, Tecni Spin isn't for everyone, especially beginners seeking easy power or those looking for a more comfortable entry point into the polyester universe. Ultimately, though, for the big swinging poly player who wants an affordable and spin-friendly co-poly, Tecni Spin is a no-brainer.

Breakdown
Power: 6.9
Like the majority of poly-based monofilaments we've tested, Tecni Spin is a control string that places the burden of power squarely on the player's shoulders. In other words, it was perfect for Chris, who found it easy stay on attack with this string. He explained, "I found Tecni Spin to be a very control-oriented string, and I could trust I would find the control needed to allow me to play aggressively during matches. I was finding my targets, which enabled me to go for the lines and play with confidence. The power level was low, and about what I would expect from this type of co-poly. I tried Tecni Spin mostly in my Tecnifibre TFight 300, and I found it to match the power level of my racquet well."
Michelle also appreciated the control, but she found a tad more pop than Chris. She said, "This string has an emphasis on control over power, but it still offered enough access to power when I needed it. It was never too dead to find that extra pop to put balls away, but it helped add control, which helped my confidence when I was hitting big and trying to end a point. I liked that the string didn’t feel super elastic in my stringbed, and I was able to try it in several racquets over the month-long playtest."
Spin: 7.5
Tecni Spin is modeled after Tecnifibre 4S, which has four sharp edges for gripping the ball, but it's more elastic than 4S, giving it slightly more dwell time and pocketing. Crucially, it still delivers the low-powered response needed to maximize stroke speed, which is crucial to generating effective spin. For Michelle, there was little Tecni Spin couldn't do in the spin department. She explained, "With those four sides there was no doubt in my mind that this string would offer loads of bite on the ball! It really helped spit the ball out with extra RPMs, specifically when I added arc on the ball for a defensive shot or hit angles and slices. I even had some of the players I coach try the string, and they are now considering using it full time because of how much added bite they got!"
Chris also found this co-poly to have exceptional spin potential. He said, "This string really lived up to its name, and I was able to generate lots of spin with Tecni Spin. It felt like the edges of the string were putting a nice grip on the ball, and I was very happy with the spin I was able to generate on both my topspin and slice shots. I wasn’t getting a ton of snapback out of the string, and it would get stuck out of position after a rally, but I was still getting a lot of rotation on the ball. The controlled nature of this string also allowed me to carry a lot of racquet head speed, and I was able to translate that into lots of spin."
Comfort: 8.5
The magic of polyester flows from its stiff construction, which provides the control and connected feel that helps players maximize stroke speed and select ambitious targets. The downside comes when that higher stiffness rises to a level of discomfort or is too dead to hit shorter strokes and touch shots effectively. According to Chris, Tecni Spin avoids these problems. He commented, "I found Tecni Spin to offer a firm feel, but I never found it to feel uncomfortable. There was enough crispness from this string for it to not feel muted. I felt well connected to my shots, and the feel of the string complemented the control it offered. The amount of ball pocketing on volleys and touch shots felt a little better than average, and I was placing those shots well."
For Michelle, the feel and response of Tecni Spin were outstanding, and it complemented the different racquets she paired it with. She said, "I had it strung up in two stiffer racquets, the Babolat Pure Drive 98 and Wilson Blade Pro 100, and I found the combo to be nearly perfect. As some would say, it was the perfect pairing, like chocolate and peanut butter. The Blade Pro 100 has been ultra-string sensitive for me lately, and Tecni Spin was the first string that felt really good in there without feeling too elastic a day or two after being installed. The string also pocketed well and made me feel connected to my shots. In both racquets, Tecni Spin gave me good control without feeling uncomfortable, and I had no problem generating power when needed."
Playability Duration: 8.5
Given that it posted one of the higher scores for tension maintenance in our Tennis Warehouse string lab, it's not surprising that our playtesters were impressed by how long Tecni Spin held its playability. Michelle commented, "I think one of the standout features, along with the bite, was the durability and playability duration of Tecni Spin. I thought the string held its properties well past two weeks, but I will say it was time to cut it out after three-plus weeks."
Chris, who has tested more than his fair share of polyester monofilaments, was also impressed by how long Tecni Spin held up. He said, "I loved how long the playability of Tecni Spin lasted in my racquets. I never broke a set of this string during the test, and I was able to get three to four weeks out of it before I wanted to cut it out and have a fresh set installed. I was impressed how I still found lots of control and spin from Tecni Spin even as the tension started to drop out of the stringbed."

Playtester Thoughts

Chris
Tecni Spin definitely played like a Tecnifibre co-poly. I found it to offer a ton of control and a firm feel that never felt uncomfortable. Compared to another four-sided string, Tecnifibre 4S, I found Tecni Spin to play just slightly less crisp, pocket the ball a little better and offer a similar amount of spin but slightly less control. An intermediate through advanced level player seeking lots of control, spin and durability will love this string. Best of all, if you are a frequent player the price makes it an affordable option.
I loved the spin, control, feel and how long Tecni Spin lasted. I also like the color.
I was a little surprised that Tecni Spin lacked some snapback, but it didn't seem to hinder spin production.

Michelle
There are a few sharp strings out there that I think Tecni Spin would comparable to. Tecnifibre 4S would be an easy comparison, but even something like Big Hitter Silver. I have been hitting with some players looking to update their setups, and I like to offer them a round and shaped string to see what they prefer. It has been fun watching players really lean into the shaped options! I think this is going to be such a solid option for players who might be craving more bite on their shots. I enjoyed the bite I got, but I could really see how well it worked when we put it in another player's racquet and she found confidence from the added grab on the ball. I think this would be an awesome string to try if you often go with the round polys!
Great bite, good control and access to power. Love the blue and good durability! Tecni Spin is also pretty comfortable.
I don't think I had anything really to complain about; I did need to cut it out once it hit four weeks in my racquet, but it held its properties very well during the course of the playtest.
