Diadora Blushield Torneo 3 Women's Tennis Shoe Review
The Diadora Blushield Torneo 3 shoes are designed to deliver extra comfort to all of your court sessions. Air mesh, Suprelltech and D-skin technologies team up to make the uppers lightweight and breathable. Specially engineered medial midsoles along with reinforced heel support add stability, and the signature Blushield cushioning underfoot is incredibly plush. The outsoles are constructed of Duratech 5000 rubber in a modified herringbone tread pattern for optimal traction and durability. These Torneo 3s are also backed by a six-month outsole durability guarantee. All of our playtesters were impressed with the comfort and traction throughout the testing period, but they did struggle to get a locked-in feel and would have liked more overall support. If your feet seem to take a beating every time you step onto the court, you'll want to lace these Torneo 3s up and enjoy the plush ride!

Breakdown
Comfort: 8.9
The Blushield cushioning in these Diadora Blushield Torneo 3s did not disappoint. In fact, comfort was one of the highlights of the playtest for our whole team. Michelle noticed the outstanding plushness as soon as she slid the Torneo 3s onto her feet. She said, "I've learned over the past several years of playtesting that Diadora shoes tend to be more comfortable than not. The Torneo 3s were just that. Once I stepped in and laced up, I recognized that really nice, soft Blushield cushioning underfoot. The fit was true in length, and they fit my medium-width feet well - I experienced no weird rubbing or blisters or anything like that, and no real break-in was required. I really liked the cosmetics, and I thought the shoes were fairly breathable."
The Torneo 3's ample cushioning held up for Zsofi throughout the playtest. She noted, "Overall, I was extremely impressed with the new Diadora Speed Blushield Torneo 3s! There are a lot of aspects of this shoe that I loved, especially the amazing comfort levels. I could really feel that Blushield cushioning under my feet when I put them on. I have put more than 20 hours on these shoes already, and I can attest that the cushioning did not go away even after long hours of playing. I also really liked the low-to-the-ground, speedy feel. I felt super connected to the court, and I also felt super light on my feet, which I truly loved."
After a break-in period to accommodate her wider feet, Tiffani appreciated the cushioning these Torneo 3s provided. She described, “The Torneo 3s felt really tight in the toe box when I first tried them on. I decided to wear them around for a couple of hours to start the break-in before heading to the tennis court, and it took two to three hours for the uppers to stretch enough to not squeeze the widest part of my feet. That part opened up just fine, but these shoes do taper rather quickly to the toe, so take that into account as well. The underfoot cushioning is outstanding, just like Diadora shoes I've worn in the past. Even with the soft padding, I didn't feel like these shoes were overly hot, and I would give them average marks in the ventilation department. The arch support was enough for me as well. Once these shoes were broken in, the comfort was the highlight of this review for me."
"I was very impressed with how much I ended up liking these new Diadora Blushield Torneo 3 shoes," Ana added. "This was my first time playing in this brand, and these shoes definitely surprised me. The Torneo 3s offered great cushioning and were true to size, so they were quite comfortable right from the start. I had enough space for my toes and didn’t experience any discomfort in terms of fit."
Foot Support / Stability: 7.1
Mesh uppers are lightweight, flexible and offer good ventilation, but the uppers on the Diadora Blushield Torneo 3 seemed to be a weak point. Our playtesters all experienced their feet shifting or sliding within the shoes after a relatively short time playing in them. Ana felt the most movement in the forefoot. She explained, "Support and stability were a little tricky with these shoes. At the beginning of testing, I thought the shoes were stable enough and offered great support. They weren’t the stiffest shoes I have played in, but they were not the softest either, and they performed well. However, as the playtest went on and I kept playing more in the shoes, I noticed less support in the forefoot and felt like my feet were moving around more than I would like. The ankle support was OK, but nothing out of the ordinary."
Good foot support is essential for Zsofi's level of play, and the Torneo 3's uppers weren't quite up to the task. She said, "Technology-wise, these shoes are built amazingly and have incredible features that really make them stand out, but there is one downside that I noticed. The uppers significantly stretched out after the break-in period. Unfortunately, no matter how tightly I cinched the laces (and I did use a runner's knot in the extra eyelet), I still didn't feel supported enough. The uppers were just stretching too much during my aggressive turns and that sensation made me feel very uneasy playing my typical offensive game."
The Torneo 3's flexible upper became a problem for Michelle as well. She described, "Unfortunately, after the first wear I experienced some support and stability issues. I felt like my feet were twisting and turning within the shoes and fighting to grip the shoes to keep me upright. I came off the court with sore feet after the first several wears, and even an hour or so later noted some ankle discomfort. After a solid week or two of wearing these Torneo 3s, I realized I could not play serious tennis in them and instead reserved them only for coaching and teaching. I tried utilizing the last eyelet to help me get locked in, and while it helped some, it didn't resolve the problem. Luckily, because the Torneo 3s are so soft and comfy, they were perfect coaching shoes as long as I wasn't jumping into drills or hitting with my players."
Even after tightening her laces and using a special knot, Tiffani still felt her feet moving within the Torneo 3s. She said, "This is the area where I ran into some issues with the Torneo 3s. At first I struggled to figure out how to secure my heels. The first time I wore them I didn't use the last eyelets, and it felt like the platform in the heels was too narrow and my feet were going to spill over the sides. I had no issues, but I didn't like the sensation. The second time, I used the last eyelets, and that helped somewhat. I ended up using a runner's knot for the most secure feel in the back of the shoes. However, I continued to struggle with support. When I was moving aggressively, especially if I left the ground, the shoes felt like they were twisting on my feet. Sometimes I would come down and feel like my feet were not sitting straight on top of the shoes; rather, they were at an angle and had to slide back into place. Still, the stability was there in terms of not tipping over, but I didn't feel fully supported, and I also experienced toe jamming on hard stops."
Overall Sole Durability: 8.8
Diadora stands behind its Duratech 5000 rubber outsoles with a six-month outsole durability guarantee. Zsofi logged the most court hours testing these Blushield Torneo 3s, and she was impressed by how well they held up. She said, "I didn't see any wear on the outsoles, which is honestly amazing considering how many hours I put on these shoes. In the long run, I think the uppers would give out faster than the outsoles."
"The Torneo 3s should hold up well on hard courts, and I've got lots of hours left on my pair."
Tiffani wasn't able to put quite as much time on her Torneo 3s as usual, but she was still pleased with their durability and expects them to last long after the playtest is through. She said, "The rubber on these Torneo 3s is pretty thick, and I don't see much wear on these shoes. I did wear them somewhat sparingly because of the issues I had with the support levels. I probably put in about 10 hours of hard court tennis and a couple sessions of padel. The toes of these shoes are also well protected."
Ana saw little wear on the soles but did experience some scraping from sliding into her shots. She said, "I was truly impressed with the sole durability. I could barely see any wear on the shoes, even after coaching and playing in them for more than 10 hours. I did notice some scratches to the top material on my left shoe. Every time I slid on the court this part kept chipping off. On the other hand, it is great that they offer the six-month sole warranty."
"Because of my support and stability issues, I really didn't have a chance to put the durability to the test," Michelle added. “The outsoles are holding up well, and in the past Diadora shoes have been fairly durable."
Traction: 8.5
The modified herringbone tread pattern on these Diadora Blushield Torneo 3s delivered the right level of traction for our entire playtest team. Tiffani was happy with the mix of grip and give. She said, "Thankfully, I didn't find these Torneo 3s overly sticky. There was good traction, and I felt like I could trust them to stop and start without any surprises."
Traction was a highlight for Michelle. She said, "While I struggled with support and stability, the traction worked great. It's not too sticky and not too slick. It helped me stay upright even when I felt like I was struggling to keep my feet supported."
"I had no issues with traction. I thought it was optimal."
Ana felt completely secure in her movement on court. She described, "The traction was surprisingly great. I did not think the outsoles were too sticky, and I was not slipping around the court much. I had a good grip on the court and was able to switch directions easily."
Weight: 8.5
Weighing in at 12.2 ounces (size 8.5), the Diadora Blushield Torneo 3s fall in the mid-range for women's court shoes, trading a lighter weight on the scale for extra cushioning. Our playtesters didn't seem to mind this trade-off. Noting how nimbly she moved in the Torneo 3s, Zsofi said, "I actually really enjoyed how light these Diadoras felt on my feet. They definitely felt speedy."
The actual weight of the Torneo 3s surprised Tiffani. She said, "All things considered, these Torneo 3s felt pretty light on my feet. I was pretty aware of my movement around the court, but that was more due to the support levels than these Torneo 3s feeling heavy. Considering how cushioned they are, I was surprised they didn't feel heavier."
Michelle was also impressed by how light the Torneo 3s felt given their generous cushioning underfoot. She explained, "Once I had these Torneo 3s on, I felt they were fairly light despite the soft cushioning. I would put them in the mid-weight category - not heavy feeling but not super speedy either."
"Weight-wise, the Torneo 3s were great," Ana added. "I didn't think they felt too heavy or too light. I thought they were good enough for a high-performance tennis shoe."

Playtester Thoughts

Zsofi
The comfort of these Diadora Blushield Torneo 3s kind of reminds me of the Wilson Intrigue Tours, but I had less support from the uppers. Another shoe that come to mind are the Mizuno Wave Enforce Tour 2s.
Comfort was top-notch, lightweight, close-to-the-ground feel.
Lack of support.

Michelle
I was expecting these Diadora Torneo 3s to be more stable, but I do know the Diadora B.Icons are stable, supportive shoes. I was playtesting these alongside the Babolat SFX 4s, and the Torneo 3s had similar levels of comfort, yet in a more medium (not super wide) fit, which I preferred. I think these Torneo 3s will be a solid option for teaching pros spending long hours on the court and recreational players who play more doubles and don't rely on support and stability for every scramble on the court.
Super comfortable underfoot, great fit, good looking shoes.
I really struggle with the lack of support and stability. It feels like my pair of Torneo 3s is missing the midfoot shank, and my feet ache after wearing them for serious tennis.

Ana
I will compare the Diadora Blushield Torneo 3s to the new Wilson Intrigue Tours. Both are very comfortable shoes with enough support. However, I like the Diadora Blushield Torneo 3s' fit better, and I found them to be lighter.
I like the fit of the shoes for my feet. The Torneo 3s are comfortable right from the start. Great on durability.
The shoes were less supportive after the first few hours of playing. My feet move within the shoes more than I'd like, which makes me hesitate a little to move aggressively.

Tiffani
I love the comfort of Diadora shoes, and these Torneo 3s are no different. They're very comfortable underfoot. The fit, with the rather aggressive taper to the toe, reminds me of how the Diadora B.Icons fit my feet. In terms of lighter feeling shoes with plenty of comfort, I'm reminded of the Mizuno Wave Enforce Tour 2s and the Asics Solution Speed series (I haven't worn the latest model).
The cushioning levels are great.
The fit tapers pretty quickly to the toes and feels tight on my wider feet. I also want more support. The shoes feel like they twist on my feet while I’m playing.
