Head Extreme MP 2026 Review
Summary
The Head Extreme MP 2026 offers a lot of both power and spin, but its feel is what makes it stand out from the pack. For 2026, Head implements Hy-Bor material into the Extreme line to add some additional feedback and a better connection to the ball during impact. The average swingweight of our review samples for the Extreme MP 2026 came in below 320 points, which is lighter than the previous Extreme MP. Our playtesters on this review have had plenty of experience with this model and franchise, and all of them appreciated the increased feel. They also praised the racquet's handling and overall maneuverability, which proved to be above-average for its class. Although it may not be as stable as some of its competitors or some previous versions, this Extreme MP 2026 made it easy for our playtesters to whip up heavy spin, which let them fire off heavier shots from the baseline. Players who want power and spin without sacrificing touch and feel should add this racquet to their demo list.
- Improved connectivity and feel

Breakdown
Groundstrokes: 8.4
The 2026 Extreme MP offered plenty of power and spin from the baseline, as usual, but this time around it also featured an improved connection to the shot itself. Jason implemented the Extreme MP's strong suits to make the most out of his spin-heavy playing style. He said, "The Head Extreme MP 2026 continues to be a very user-friendly and maneuverable racquet. It whips through the contact zone effortlessly, making it super easy to generate massive spin. Honestly, it plays nearly identically to the previous version, but the addition of Hy-Bor transforms the feel at impact. It offers exceptional feedback and keeps you feeling connected to the ball without ever coming across as harsh or too stiff."
Brittany is well versed in many generations of the Extreme MP, and this might just be her favorite yet. She explained, "The Extreme MP has always been one of my favorite racquets in the Head lineup, but there are some versions I have jelled with more than others. I wanted to really love the last generation because I thought it had a ton of potential, but I felt something was missing. I am happy to report that this update exceeded my expectations. The first thing I noticed was that I felt very comfortable using the racquet from the very first hitting session. The highlight of the playtest from the baseline was the easy spin and maneuverability. The racquet was easy to whip around, and I could easily rotate my wrist to create some heavy shots off both wings. I hit some of the sharpest shots of my life with it to pull my opponent off the baseline. There is plenty of power potential, and maybe a slightly higher than average launch angle. It has a little more control than the previous iteration, and I felt a little more precise, but I still feel like there is a little room for improvement. I had no complaints on defense, and my slices were solid."
Tiffani's game is built around a flatter swing/stroke, but she still felt comfortable utilizing this powerful Extreme MP 2026 to make the most out of her counterpunching game. She noted, "I'm sorry to start off talking about the cosmetics, but glossy bright yellow and green paint is fairly hard to look past. This racquet is bright! But in a good way. It really has to be seen in person to appreciate. Now onto the nitty gritty of a review ... I have to say I'm pretty impressed with this update to the Extreme MP. This line hasn't always been the one I gravitate toward, but I quickly found a rhythm on my groundstrokes with this Extreme MP 2026. The power level was good, but controllable, and I could easily hit with depth or mix in a shorter, angled ball. Topspin was easy to generate, but at the same time, I didn't find it necessary to emphasize it and could play my usual flatter hitting style. The one issue I had was when I tried to change the direction of the ball. I found it hard to redirect hard-hit shots, and I had my best results when I sent the ball back the same direction it came from."
Volleys: 8.3
Up at net, our team continued to appreciate the quick handling nature of the Extreme MP 2026, as well as a more connected feel created by the Hy-Bor. Tiffani found great success at net with this racquet and was comfortable going after smaller targets to end points sooner. She said, "This Extreme MP 2026 felt so quick, and I really appreciated that mobility on volleys. Even though I struggled changing the ball direction on groundstrokes, I didn't have those issues on volleys for the most part. The speed of the Extreme MP 2026 helped me catch the ball in front of my body, and I had time to be more intentional with my placement."
Jason was also able to prepare early and execute confidently. He explained, "Getting the Extreme MP 2026 into position for volleys was a breeze. Off-center shots did twist the racquet more than I anticipated, so torsional stability could be improved. Once again, the addition of Hy-Bor does wonders for the racquet's feel."
"It stayed nice and whippy in my hands, even in rapid fire volley exchanges. "
Brittany found a connected sensation when volleying, which helped offset the occasional instability she noticed. She said, "For volleys up at net, I really appreciated the improved, more connected Hy-Bor feel. The Extreme MP 2026 was extremely easy to maneuver, which allowed me to get my hands in place quicker. Stability was OK; there were just a couple of reflex volleys that felt a little unstable. Overall, I felt I could be effective up at net whether I was aggressively punching a volley deep or being a little more crafty with some touch shots."
Serves: 8.6
Serving with the Extreme MP 2026 was largely characterized by easy access to power and reliable spin production. Although her favorite shot is usually her serve return, Brittany was thrilled with her success on serve. She noted, "One of the things that didn't change from the previous generation was how well I served with the Extreme MP 2026, and it remains my favorite shot to hit with this racquet. I enjoyed mixing up flat and slice first serves. There was easy power that was confirmed by my Zenniz data, and I was easily hitting in the low 90s (which is on the higher side for me!). I also liked to mix in slice serves on the deuce side by aiming into the body or out wide. This allowed me to hit kick serves that had high net clearance and reduced the number of double faults."
"I was most appreciative of the racquet when hitting second serves. During matches I can get tight and miss into the net, but it was easy to consistently get the Extreme MP 2026 up and over my head to generate racquet head speed."
Tiffani appreciated the maneuverability of the Extreme MP 2026 overhead, which allowed her to comfortably serve for extended periods of time. She said, "I felt like this racquet maneuvered well, and I had no issues getting this Extreme MP 2026 up and over my head. I didn't feel like I was hitting super hard serves, and I got average pace readings off our Zenniz smart court, but I could serve for long games without tiring out. Spin was easy enough for me to use, so I sliced my serves most of the time."
Jason found a lot more speed and spin than usual when serving with the Extreme MP 2026. He explained, "Serving might be my favorite shot to hit with the Extreme MP 2026. I noticed some extra pop on my first serves, and when testing it side-by-side with the Boom MP, the Extreme consistently gave me higher ball speeds. The spin production was awesome as well, which gave me confidence that my slice serves would land in play."
Returns: 8.3
When redirecting pace from a serve, our team was conscious of the Extreme MP 2026’s powerful nature and its slight tendency to overhit at times. Jason picked up on this powerful experience, opting to slightly dial back his returns, primarily against second serves. He said, "This is definitely a racquet I enjoy teeing off with, but at times I felt I had to ease up a bit to manage its power and avoid overhitting. That was especially true when I was stepping up to attack a second serve. I found myself dialing it back just a touch to keep the ball inside the lines. On the plus side, the spin potential allowed me to carve out sharp, angled returns whenever I brushed up aggressively on the ball."
Brittany was cognizant of the Extreme MP's slight tendency to overhit, and she opted to aim for bigger targets to allow more room for error. She explained, “The Extreme MP 2026 has a nice balance of power and control, but I’d say the racquet leans slightly more on the power side. However, I just needed to add a little bit of spin to rein in the power. I was plenty aggressive, but I did aim toward larger targets to be slightly more conservative. I also aimed deep down the middle a lot to be in more of a neutral position to start points.”
Aiming for bigger targets was the most successful strategy for Tiffani. She noted, "I enjoyed the updated feel of the Extreme MP 2026, and that helped me on returns. As with most racquets, returning was my preferred way to start off points. I felt like I could swing this racquet fast enough to return from a more aggressive position in the court and take a lot of serves early. I did notice that it was best for me to choose bigger targets, though, because sometimes it felt like the Extreme MP 2026 got pushed around by harder incoming serves."

Playtester Thoughts

Brittany
I was extremely happy with this update from Head. The last generation Extreme XP had taken a small step in the right direction, and this newest update really hit it out of the park. For me, the biggest improvement was the feel. I felt much more connected to my shots thanks to the Hy-Bor material. The stability is similar to the previous version (but better than the 2022 model). It is extremely spin-friendly, maneuverable and has plenty of power. Other racquets that play similarly include the Yonex EZONE 100 and VCORE 100, Babolat Pure Aero 100, Dunlop SX 300 and Prince Ripstick 100 300g.
I like the spin, maneuverability and feel.
Nothing much, maybe I would like a little more control/precision at times, but that is really minor.

Tiffani
I really like new cosmetic compared to the outgoing one. The glossy green-yellow looks pretty cool. I also find this 2026 version better for my flatter hitting style compared to the Extreme MP 2024. I would try this racquet with the Yonex EZONE 100, the new Wilson Defyer 100 and the Babolat Pure Aero 2026.
The Extreme MP 2026 has some power, but it isn't too powerful, and I can hit with spin, but I don't HAVE to.
It's a little hard for me to change directions during baseline exchanges. For example, if the rally was going cross court, I found it difficult to take the ball up the line. The Extreme MP 2026 didn't quite have enough "oomph" behind it to manage that all the time.

Jason
The Extreme MP 2026 plays like the previous Extreme MP, but it offers better feel with the new Hy-Bor material, and I just feel more connected to my shots.
The addition of the Hy-Bor material really helps the feel. The Extreme MP 2026 is a great racquet for easy playability, with plenty of access to power and spin.
Torsional stability could be better, especially at net.
