Toroline's "Greatest Hits"
In the last few years, Toroline quickly established themselves as one of the leading voices in the polyester string realm. They offer a variety of polyester choices both shaped and round, each one tailored to fit a specific player or need. Their constant push to innovate has made them a well-respected option within the landscape, and their endorsements on the professional tour are slowly adding up. Currently they have presence among both ATP & WTA doubles players. This article helps break down some of the “Greatest Hits” from Toroline and which ones might be ideally suited for your game.
O-Toro
Perhaps there is no more classic of a polyester option from Toroline than their signature O-Toro. This spin-friendly string was rated at 9.4 on the Tennis Warehouse University scale for Spin Potential, making it one of the more spin-oriented options we’ve seen introduced to the market in a long time. What sets it apart from a lot of other strings in its class though is its relative stiffness (a measurement of how firm a string is during impact) of 166 (in pounds per inch). This lower stiffness (especially for a flagship polyester) translates to more comfort and dwell time during contact. O-Toro in its most basic form has grown quite the following, with many players electing to use it as half of a unique hybrid setup.
O-Toro Tour
Compared to regular O-Toro’s 166 stiffness, O-Toro Tour is rated at 217, and O-Toro Spin is rated at 173. O-Toro Tour has quickly earned favor among our playtest team, with our hitters praising its highly controlled nature and excellent responsiveness. Its profile is six-sided for fantastic spin production, and the snapback has proved impressive too. Our playtest team actually reviewed this one in full, so check out the video below and/or this in-depth written review!
"The power and control combo is ideal for what I’m looking for, with a focus on control. All that control really allowed me to feel completely comfortable hitting out and going for my big shots. I felt like I could step up and generate as much power as I wanted." - Michelle, TW Playtester
O-Toro Spin
Comparatively, O-Toro Spin feels softer than its 173 stiffness indicates, as it seems to facilitate deeper ball pocketing upon impact, which helps when shaping a ball with heavy RPMs. Spin is five-sided whereas normal O-Toro and Tour are both hexagonally shaped. This string in particualr seems to let the strings hang out in the stringbed a little longer than average, which lets users experience more of a "trampoline" response. This string also was reviewed in full by our playtest team, so check out the video below and/or our written review for more firsthand information.
"There is a small difference in the edges between O-TORO and O-TORO Spin, but I did feel like O-TORO Spin gave me just that little extra bite on the felt of the ball. I was able to generate some tight spin and heavy rotation on my cross-court groundstrokes with O-TORO Spin in my Yonex EZONE 98+. I was also picking up on the easy access to spin when it came to generating topspin or kick on my serves." - Troy, TW Playtester
O-Toro Octa
Like the name implies, O-Toro Octa is an eight-sided version of O-Toro, specifically O-Toro Tour, which is one of the stiffest options available from Toroline. This eight-sided spin machine produces a firmer contact sensation during impact, and quickly shoots the ball out of the stringbed due to its high stiffness. Our team found this one to produce high levels of spin and excellent control. Ideal for advanced players who need stiffer strings to help control their inherent power.
O-Toro Snap/Snap TF
Rounding out the O-Toro family are O-Toro Snap and O-Toro Snap TF. These two strings are round offerings of Toroline's flagship O-Toro franchise. Regular Snap is on the softer side, and is explicitly designed to facilitate more string movement, and Snap TF features a firmer makeup for advanced players craving more precision. Both do an excellent job at decreasing string-to-string friction, making the strings "snap" back into place much more easily than a shaped string typically does.
K-Pop
K-Pop is instantly recognizable with its vibrant color scheme, but is also renowned for being developed in collaboration with Karue Sell, one of the leading voices in the online tennis community. Additionally, it became one of the more successful string offerings from Toroline in their earlier days, gaining widespread accalim for its control and spin production.
"It's a comfortably firm hybrid that I have found works really well for my compact-ish strokes. Great grab of the ball and I feel decent dwell time as well. Mind you, I used to use this at 57lbs. Lots of pop and spin but the downside I feel is that the tension loss is not great." -Munish, TW Playtester
A5
As one of the most innovation-focused string producers out there, Toroline is always striving to find some new twist on the polyester formula. Namely, shape and stiffness, and the combination thereof that facilitates some new kind of experience, or at least a relatively discernible difference compared to other choices. A5 arrives on the back of several varied introductions to Toroline’s offerings, but a round poly with this level of control is unusual. So too is the stability sourced from the string in motion, holding up under higher racquet head speeds and against heavier levels of pace. “Comfortably crisp” is one of those terms you hear thrown around often for polyester string, but A5 manages to actually deliver on that promise.
Professional Setups
Dreddy
This string was developed in collaboration with grass-court specialist Dustin Brown and pairs O-Toro Tour (six-sided, firm) with O-Toro Snap (round, slick). The experience is a string that offers excellent precision while still allowing the mains to snap back freely without compromising on overall feel. Our playtest team actually reviewed this one in full, and one of our other team members made this setup her go-to choice.
Stevie
The Stevie hybrid is an interesting one from Toroline, who primarily stick to solely co-polyester offerings. However, this Stevie Hybrid uses their O-Toro Tour in the mains (usually) mixed with Truffle X for the crosses, which is made from PEEK polymers, making it much softer than most polyester choices. Both our playtest team and the man, Steve Johnson himself, reviewed this one, so feel free to check out either review below for more information on this natural gut-esque alternative option.
"I have really been leaning into anything that offers easier power, and the Truffle X gave me that easier power no matter what racquet I used. A full bed of O-TORO Tour is much more controlled, but I really appreciated the extra comfort and pop of this hybrid, and I never felt like I didn't have enough control." - Michelle, TW Playtester
Cash
As a slightly softer alternative to A5 derived from the same composition, Cash was developed in close collaboration with its namesake; Julian Cash, one half of the 2025 Men's Doubles championship team in London. For a co-polyester string, the inherent liveliness of Cash offers free power to an impressive degree while still packing plenty of spin and feel. The more powerful nature is well-suited for doubles, where ending points quickly at the net is of utmost importance. If you want to mimic the true Julian Cash setup, try mixing in your favorite synthetic gut or natural gut in the crosses to add even more flex to your stringbed during contact. Listen to Michelle and Eric from Toroline in a special courtside podcast recorded live during a Cash practice at Indian Wells!
