SmellWell Explained

Look, we get it. Nobody wants to be that person causing people to wrinkle their noses. So what if there was a way to better deal with unpleasant odors? What if there was a way to contain and/or absorb the smelliness from sweaty items?

Enter SmellWell. Looking to do just that, SmellWell products use a combination of bamboo charcoal and minerals that are designed to actively pull in odorous particles from emanating items. Unpleasant odors are generated by bacteria that persists in moister environments, usually resulting from sweat. SmellWell’s material composition is explicitly designed to absorb moisture, which if eliminated, gets rid of bacteria and the subsequent odor. The idea is simple enough, and SmellWell has both bags and inserts that are designed to practically trap, eliminate, or otherwise remove the unpleasantness from either the items themselves, or their surrounding areas. This article showcases way the products function and offers a review of both the inserts and the bag.

SmellWell Inserts:

The SmellWell inserts are fairly straightforward; simply place the insert inside whatever you desire to freshen up. Where it’s a pair of shoes, a bag, or a storage area, the inserts are small enough to be versatile in a variety of situations. The inserts themselves come in two different sizes, a regular and extra long option for larger containers/items. They also come prepackaged in pairs of two, meaning you’ll have one for each shoe if that’s your intended use. While each insert is capable of lasting up to 6 months on its own, the overall lifespan can be prolonged by placing the insert in the sun, where the bamboo/mineral mix is reinvigorated by the sunlight.

SmellWell Bags:

SmellWell’s bag options are a little more protective in terms of encasing odors, which makes them great for travel, gym bags, or separating your smelly items from your fresh ones. The bag comes in two sizes, and the fabric of the bag is lined with SmellWell’s signature mix of bamboo and minerals. The top of the bag sports a drawstring cinch making the bag truly a self-containing item. Similar to the inserts, the bag’s lifespan can be effectively “recharged” by turning the bag inside out, and placing it in the sunshine. After at least half an hour, the bag’s freshness will be back up to scratch for suitable daily use

SmellWell Inserts:

When I first got the SmellWell inserts, I was excited to put them to use in a pair of shoes, but was unsure what the turnaround time would end up looking like. To my surprise, the inserts worked very quickly, and made damp and sweaty shoes feel fresh within just a few hours. So I started rotating my inserts between a couple pairs of court shoes, and to my delight, each pair I put the inserts in would sure enough freshen up within a few hours. After rotating the inserts between all the shoes I’m currently wearing, I started placing the inserts in drawers, containers, and other areas where moisture/odor could accumulate. The inserts worked better than advertised, and every area I’ve put them in has since smelled much better to my own nose, which hopefully means that it smells even better to others’. The inserts are also very well made, and have been great to handle and utilize.

SmellWell Bag:

The SmellWell Bag has been in my daily tennis bag for the better part of three months, and at this point it has become an essential item for me. I was shocked at how well it worked, and I found myself trying to test the limits of what this thing could do. I left sweaty clothes in it overnight, and it still worked great. I even doubled up sweaty clothes in it over the course of multiple hitting and exercise sessions, and it still performed better than advertised. I was really impressed pretty much from the get-go, and I have been also taking this handy little bag with me when I travel to use as a portable dirty clothes hamper. I did finally at one point manage to wear down the effectiveness of the deodorizing properties, but, I just followed the instructions to “recharge” the bag in the sun and it has been as good as new! This is truly a great product, and I prefer it over the inserts for sheer functionality and versatility.
