Overview

With the V-Cell 4 Volkl updates the V-Feel 4 with a re-engineered material layup, resulting in a more responsive and comfortable feel. As with the previous generation, this stick packs a generous 105in² head, making it more forgiving and powerful than a standard midplus racquet. It also comes with an extended 27.6" length, resulting in more lethal groundies, overheads and serves. For this update  Volk adds extra V-Cell material to the racquet's interior to create a more comfortable, stable and responsive hitting experience. Like the previous generation, this racquet's butt cap and innovative REVA based handle system have been meticulously engineered to deliver a smoother, more arm-friendly feel at impact. From the baseline, the V-Cell 4 not only gives you the extra power and spin that comes with a larger head and extended length, it also offers surprising maneuverability for an extended length racquet . The upshot is a speedy weapon that will enable you hit winners on the run or reset the point with an outstretched flick. At net, this racquet comes around fast, and the extra length delivers big pop on overheads (and serves), making this a great option for the doubles player. Ultimately, with some incremental tweaks to the feel, this update remains an obvious option for the intermediate player or dedicated beginner in search of a uniquely fast and forgiving extended length racquet.

Love these sticksI switched from the ProKennex Black Ace 105. It was a bit too heavy. Switched to this racquet. It hits like butter. I put four grams at 3 and 9 for stability. Weiss Cannon Ultra Cable Mains 17 and Ashway 18 Dynamite crosses. Both at 48. Grip size feels small. I built it up. You may need to go one size larger. More power at your finger tips.

Interesting racquetNot sure who this is exactly for? I have played with 4 of the Volkl 4s. Organix and Super G had medium flex and the VSENSE, VFEEL and VCELL were pretty stiff. VCELL quick light , good control and medium power. More stable than older Organix and Super-G. Definitely not a typical, serve + 1 racquet like most college players are. It could fit a beginner to about a 4.5 NTRP player. More of a slice/dice racquet that performs better on the baseline than at net. Down now to 4.0 NTRP. Does not play as soft as older Volkl 4s

Controlled PowerAfter some modification to increase the overall weight and the swing weight, it plays very much like my other racquet, ProKennex Pro 5G, with a longer reach, bigger sweet spot and comparable control. The better than expected control comes from the tighter string spacing in the sweet spot. It has a little more oomph than Pro 5G, but still requires a fast, committed full swing. Every stroke works well with a 17 gauge, stiff poly at mid-40 tensions. No need to hybrid since it is already plush.

Perfect racquetTried and played with a lot of racquets, stopped playing five years ago due to a medical condition, came back six months ago, and after some demos found this perfect for my age (62), just added five grams of lead tape at the bottom, along with a leather grip and added 3 grams of tungsten tape at 9 and 3, along with protection tape, it is just perfect combined with Isospeed Axon Multi at 54 pounds. Incredible combination of comfort, feel, power, and spin.

Very Good RacquetI purchased the V-Cell 4 because in this "dead-ball" era I feel I need at least one racquet in the bag that gives me more power. Balls these days are slow to begin with, and then late in a match they get even slower. The V-Cell 4 provides good, not overwhelming, power and very adequate spin. I added weight to the shaft and head for better stability and strung it with Weiss Canon Ultra Cable 17 at 49 lbs. I have been very pleased with the result. I am an advanced player (4.0 - 4.5) who usually plays a couple of times a week. This racquet should work out well for players of all levels.

Comments: The V-Cell 4 is a wonderful combination of power, kind to the arm, generous sweet spot, and great for hitting powerful topspin shots which fly fast and dip hard. To my V-Cell 4 I added some lead to the hoop (10g) and shaft (4g) to give it a bit more weight and increase the swing weight slightly. It now weighs 310g incl dampner and strings. The other key to making this a weapon is to use an aggressive string. Unfortunately, the TW staff keep pushing Volkl Cyclone. I think it's a really dead, lifeless and harsh string and it just doesn't work with my game. By comparison the Volkl Cyclone Tour at 52 lbs gives much more life and improves spin. But put in Volkl V-Square 18G at 52 lbs and this racquet reaches its true potential. This gives the V-Cell 4 incredible spin, great power, and excellent touch really suiting a player who hits topspin or slice. While it is a good racquet for the beginner or intermediate, the V-Cell 4 can be transformed into a fabulous racquet for an advanced player. What player would not want a racquet that is super smooth through impact, and has a large sweet spot, power, touch and great for spin?

Comments: I've played this racquet the past four months, after years enjoying a great pair of Babolat Aero Pro Drives. Almost immediately, I knew this V-Cell 4 was better for me on all strokes. I have V-Cell 4 with Volkl Cyclone 17 at 52 pounds tension. Feels much livelier on flat serves and groundstrokes. Great spin on kick serves and topspin shots. Seems quicker to me than my previous racquets. Loving this V-Cell 4.
