Offering a more plush feel for 2024

Babolat added another chapter to the Pure Strike 97 (formerly called the Pure Strike VS). Boasting the thinnest beam and most compact head in the Pure Strike family, this racquet delivers mindless accuracy on full cuts. It also moves extremely fast for its weight, making it great for whipping up spin, hitting shots on the run or reacting quickly at net. Compared to the previous generation, this update offers better pocketing along with a more plush feel off-center, especially in the upper hoop where the previous gen was a tad brassy. The Pure Strike 97 also comes with FSI Control technology, which tightens the string spacing for an even more precise and predictable trajectory. To help with comfort, Babolat adds NF² Tech which uses flax inserts in the shaft to help dampen harsh impact vibrations. Like the previous generation, this frame benefits from Control Frame Technology, which blends square and elliptical cross sections to deliver a stable hitting experience with excellent ball feedback. Ultimately, this racquet continues to be an obvious option for experienced players who want a speedy modern player's racquet with surgical targeting and great feel. The fact that it's even more comfortable than its predecessor is a nice bonus.

Controlled aggressionProvides just enough pop to boost your own power without taking over the shot. Heavy flat serves. Took some time to get spin working on second serve. Good depth on groundstrokes, and can also hit the angles. Crisp volleys that benefit from being easy to move through the air.

Good stick - needs weightTruly unplayable without lead, as it's a players racquet without any significant swingweight. Once it's up to at least 330g swingweight plays much better.

Ignore my previous review…Heavy feeling, but produces great spin serves. BEST volleying racquet, but caused me arm pain

UnmaneuverableThis racquet is very heavy feeling; not maneuverable enough for quick groundstrokes. Loved it for kick or slice serves though.

Helps me improve my game!Like a previous review mentions this racquet is easier to use than expected. I do not have too much top spin in my game and have been playing with 18x20. And 16x19 for some reason is just not for me. The 16x20 pattern fills in that gap based on my current level & playing style and provides me reasonable net clearance. I also have the previous VS version of this racquet. The current model is a bit easier on the arm, but both racquets give decent top spin. Good power when needed. Control is amazing. But you have to keep improving your game to get full benefit of this Pure Strike model. I love taking full controlled swings, and get just the right amount of top spin & power to push the opponents behind baseline and when needed flatten with speedy winners, with directional control. The inherent weight gives stability both at net for solid volleys on fast incoming shots or at the baseline against some big hitters and you do not get pushed around. With the given weight this racquet is still quick & maneuverable at net. I am improving my OHB and this racquet is helping with that aspect of my game. My string setup, 17 guts in main at 52 / Solinco Hyper-G 17 g at 49 crosses.

Babolat Pure Stike 97Racquet performs exactly as advertised. The feeling is a little more pockety than its predecessor. Love taking full cuts at the ball and still having control for spin and angles.

Much easier to use than you might expectSmall head, with narrow beam, and tight pattern would lead you to believe this is a hard to use racquet unless you are an elite player, but that couldn't be further from the truth. It's not as powerful as some 100's but it doesn't feel smaller than a 98. I tried this extensively comparing it to a Blade 98 v9 16X19, and this swung more quickly, I got more depth, and could control the point much better with this. I started with the '22 PS VS, but ultimately bought the PS97. The difference between this and the prior version is almost nothing. The PS97 is slightly less lively, but everything else is the same. I am convinced that those that say there is a big difference are noticing a difference in specs. This does play better for me with a slightly higher swingweight of ~325. I know that people were getting these with strung SWs of ~310-315, which contributes to instability. If you are looking at control oriented racquets (like the Blade), definitely give this a try. I really wanted to like the Blade more, but my results were MUCH better with the PS 97.

Babolat's version of the Pro StaffMost people who get this will likely miss out on its true potential. Do not play this with the recommended stock settings. You need to customize it. DO NOT play with a poly. It must be with the tried and true VS Gut + Alu Power Rough combo. DO NOT play with the stock leather grip, swap it out with the classic Fairway leather grip. DO NOT string it low. You need to add about 4-6 grams of tungsten/lead weight at the 11 and 1 o'clock, and 3 and 9 o'clock positions. This should bring swing weight in the range of 336-340. This legend demands a full stroke, full effort, solid footwork, excellent preparation, and impeccable timing at contact, to unleash WINNERS on both wings of the court. Sorry, but this racquet is only for 5.0+ players. All other levels or lazy strokes, please look elsewhere, because this legend is very unforgiving and has no free power. It demands you to upgrade your game, only then you will transcend to 5.0+ levels.
