Overview

Value hunters looking for a comfortable multifilament with above average control and spin potential have come to the right place. Constructed with an army of ultra flexible filaments, Velocity MLT offers an arm- friendly feel with low vibration and minimal shock on off-center hits. Unlike Head Reflex MLT, Velocity's filaments are bonded with a PA resin, which is firmer than the polyurethane resin used in the majority of premium multifilaments. To further enhance control, Velocity's core is surrounded by 30 thicker filaments. As a result Velocity is slightly firmer and more control-oriented than the average multi, making it easier for the player to swing big and load the ball with pace and spin. Head also adds a special low-friction coating to boost durability. All in all, this is a great option for non string breakers who want a comfortable multi with above average control and spin-potential.

Try this 1.25mm version for slightly more power and feel than the 1.30mm version.

  • Gauge: 17/1.25mm
  • Length: 40ft/12m
  • Composition: Multifilament - 1,000 filaments and an outerwrap of 30 filaments bonded with a firm PA resin, with a low-friction additive in the coating
  • Color: Black, Blue, Natural, Pink, Yellow

DaveI have played tennis for over 50 years, and this is the best string for the value I have ever found. The comfort and performance are great, but what I really like is the durability and the fact this string does not move out of place like so many multi's do. It does not lose its playability like a lot of multi's after just a few hours.

Go-to stringGreat string. Reliable response, controllable, comfortable, and excellent tension maintenance beginning to end. It lasts me 40 hours since I'm not a string breaker. Age 65 and a 4.5 all-court hitter, stringing this 55 lbs, pre-stretched and in a 98" frame. Strung it tighter than you might think and it was still comfortable. Great way to leave poly behind.

Head Velocity MLTI am a solid 4.5 tournament player, my serve and forehand are dominant. I switched over to MLT from Tecnifibre X-One BiPhase and am very satisfied with this string. Not as powerful as the BiPhase but solid in all areas. A great all around less expensive option. I hybrid it with Head Lynx.

Head Velocity MLT 17/1.25 stringsTried monofilament for first time after using synthetic gut strings for many years. I was looking for more power and comfort and these strings did NOT disappoint. Noticeable increase power with all strokes and change in my control. Racquets strung @ 52 tension.

Velocity StringsHead makes a good above average multifilament string in it's Velocity Brand. It's durable and predictable. Not as soft as NXT but half the price and plays as good. In fact, I like it better.

Poor QualityThe strings themselves are great to hit with, but both the strings that came on my pre-strung racquet and the pack I ordered separately broke within a few hours. I wouldn't buy them again.

Love itThese are proven to be good for me. I have a sensitive elbow and this Velocity 17 is great for my elbow. I have used full beds of Babolot VS and this is very similar but with a deader feeling. Good feel, decent spin, and good amount of power. I am 68 years old and a 3.5/4.0 player mostly playing doubles. After 6 hours it is still preforming very well. Checked tension after 6 hours of play ant it is still good and evened out between strings. Strung at 54 lbs in mains and crosses as a full bed. This will be my string of choice. Need to chose my final color, currently color is natural.

Favorite MultiI love Velocity 17 in a Head Gravity Pro. It is very arm friendly and spinny for multi. Provides nice launch angle and enough pop. I did not like 16g that much. Significantly less pop and spin, felt stiff. 17g is much better for me. The string starts to notch (the mains) and loses spin after 15-20 hours but that is plenty for me. Never broke one so far (I have a dense 18x20) and seem its decline is steady hence I am able to play with it forever, but restringing after 20 hours is probably best. The string also starts to move at some point but not horribly bad, I just readjust it here and there. Next, I will try it as a cross with a more "premium" multi to save on cost but also to provide better spin. However, the string is fine to great on its own. I also liked it as a main to hybrid with poly, but my hand cannot handle poly this days:(

UpdatePreviously I used this string on Wilson Clash 100 and I was very happy with it! Now that I've recovered from wrist injury I decided to go back to my Babolat Pure Drive team and use it on my crosses! My Main is Volkl V-Torque 18 @ 50 lbs and Head Velocity MLT 17 on cross 48 lbs. This combination is working nicely for me. Soft, good power, nice pop and great spin.

Excellent Mid Range StringThis is a great string for many of my clients. Very arm friendly, somewhat durable and at a reasonable cost.

Confortable and Low PoweredI have been looking for low powered multis as an option for polys. The Velocity and Power Fiber Pro are the best ones I have fouund at this moment. The positive aspects are low power, confortable on wrist and shoulders, easy to string and very good tension maintenance. The negatives are common to most multis: A lot of movement on the mains and lack of spin compared to polys. At my age (63) one starts looking for not getting hurt more than winning club tournaments, so this are excelent strings for that. My setup is Prince Textreme Warrior at 56/54.

Comments: Great string, very comfy for sore wrists and good power to put my opponent under pressure! I wished it would come in 18 gauge too. In my opinion, for the price you cannot get any better string. Tension maintenance is also good. I use it on Wilson Clash 100 at 47lbs.

Comments: Good string, but it plays a bit more like synthetic gut for me - not a bad thing. Great durability and tension maintenance. I'll try them at lower tension next time and maybe write another review. I put them in my Pure Strike at 60 lbs, so I'm not getting big power or spin yet since they haven't dropped much in over 10 hours of play.
From: Scott, Davis, CA 7/24/21

Comments: The string is very comfortable. As with most multifilaments, it does fray. The string moves way too much. The coating wears off pretty easily. After a few hitting session the coating wears off, they start moving and notch a lot. But, the price is great and happy with the comfort.
From:Santosh, 8/12/20

Comments: Poor string for stringers. Coating tears easily and internal fibers exposed. Easy to snap when tightening. I have strung approximately 6 racquets with this, used 8 packs of strings. Never had this issue before. However, once in, fairly good comments from players. A bit softer for arm issues, good bite on ball. Sometimes a bit too much spring.

Comments: After using it for two months on my Yonex Ezone DR 98, I have to say that stringing this string at 52 lbs on the mains and 50 lbs on the crosses, allows my DR 98 to perform at its best.
From:Philanthropenos, 10/12/18

Comments: I will echo Wayne's comments. For me it is best of two worlds: poly-like characteristics and relatively easier on arm (Though not the most arm friendly multi out there). Initially tried on my spare Prince Textreme 100P as a stop-gap measure. When very satisfied with the performance I strung my main, Yonex Ezone DR 98 with it (Previously using Gosen AK Control 17). Its performance is slightly better with Prince but that is acceptable: DR 98 is more string sensitive and further fine tuning is needed. I strongly recommend it.
From:Philanthropenos, 8/4/18

Comments: Middle-of-the-road comfort for a multi but man, the coating works like magic in preventing notching so that the strings actually provide spin, almost like a poly. Tension retention seems pretty good after three intense hours of open doubles and zero notching! Why didn't I listen to my stringer and try this earlier. Strung at 50/48 lbs in a RF97A. Feels like it will last a lot longer than Gosen or M7 multis.

Comments: I haven't found this to be a low powered string at all; quite the opposite. I have it strung at 60 lbs in the new Head Graphene XT Radical MPA and its the first string I have found that gives me decent power. The touch and feel are very good which really allows me to swing away. Strings do slide around a bit but I think that is because I find myself hitting with more topspin with this string because it feels so comfortable. My only concern is durability. It's been in about two weeks of solid playing so far and is holding up. I'm a 4.5 player playing USTA tournaments and leagues who has been told I hit harder than the majority of other players I play so we will see.
From:Randy, 2/12/18

Comments: This string is basically a low powered, dead multi. Not for arm comfort seekers! If a multi like NXT or NRG has a 9/10 power and RPM Blast has a 4/10 power, then Velocity MLT has a 6/10 power. There's a slick coating that allows the string to snapback similar to a poly, but the only catch is that the coating wears off over time. To summarize: low powered, dead feeling, medium-high spin, high control, average comfort. For about $10 you get a multi/poly mixed baby without the innate stiffness of a poly.
From:Roy, 7/6/17

Comments: Wow -- a great multi with low to medium power. Not like a typical multi but very easy on the elbow. I have suffered with TE and this has been very easy no issues at all. The spin is good and you can't beat the price. If you are looking for a great control multi that is very easy on the elbow then I would give this a try just string a few pounds higher than normal.
From:Andy, 6/25/17

Comments: I've strung this in a Volkl SG V1Pro at 56/55 lbs. It dropped tension about 3 lbs over the first couple days and then after about 4 hours of play, the tension stayed steady for the next 10 hours. Lowered powered multi with good access to spin, so it is good for control and you can swing out a bit. I cut out the strings after 15 hours with light-moderate notching. But re-stringing fresh, I noticed that the performance really didn't drop off and probably could have continued to play until the strings broke. I have my PS97LS strung at 58 lbs. Maybe I didn't need to go this high. But I was initially afraid I would get too much power. But I don't think I needed to worry. I may start to experiment with stringing lower tensions than S-gut as it appears this yields lower power than OGSM. This is a great string if you aren't able to play with poly strings because of elbow issues. If you aren't a string breaker, then it should last longer than poly would (before going dead). Great performance value at $10/set. Even better if you buy 4 or more! If you are looking for more power or ultimate comfort, there are better choices. But for a good blend of control, comfort, spin and durability, cost, this is it for me.

Comments: I struggled for months to find a good a forgiving yet controllable string for my RF 97 Autograph. Tried several strings and hybrid combinations, but a full bed of Velocity 17 at 57 lbs gave me the control and feel I was looking for. Love that it snaps back like a poly!
From:Bob, 11/16

Comments: I usually play with Wilson NXT Comfort 17g string. Was recently out of town, broke a string and asked the pro shop to give me something similar. He gave me Head Velocity MLT 17 gage. Huge mistake. After playing with this string for a couple days, my arm is really sore. Going back to Wilson NXT.
