Comments: This match was a prelude to the confidence Djokovic has gained this past year through his diet and physical training along with his mental strength. Man the streak that he is on absolutely incredible! I stated after Indian Wells that they would play in more finals and be on target to surpass the Sampras/Agassi and McEnroe/Llendl if they stay healthy when it is all said on done for there careers. Four Finals in a row is a fantastic run for both players! I still feel that Djokovic and Nadal will play for the French Open title with Nadal triumphing in five tight sets. However, Dkokovic will attain the #1 ranking and will keep it for a while and I mean at least for a year or two. I still give Fed and Murray a chance to play in the Wimbledon Final because that is Fed's domain and Murray will have the crowd support. I think he should embrace it and not feel burdened by it. I still think that Djokovic will win the US Open without a doubt but not without major competition from the likes of Fed, Del Potro, and Murray. I think that Nadal will not get past the semis this time but it will be interesting to see how they all respond as the field is as tight as it has ever been!
Comments: Dito to Brian's comment. An absolute classic! So far, this must be the best match of Djokovic's career! Normally, I see Novak hanging around the top 3 in the rankings, plays the slams, but runs into either Federer, Nadal or illness/complications before reaching the finals. For the 1st time, I got to see Djokovic fight w/ a tennis heart of gold! He gave it his all, playing against Federer, who still played a good match, no doubt about that. Im a die-hard Federer fan but I salute Nole's incredible effort to pull this victory off. Watching this match, on CBS or DVD, sure had the atmosphere & tension of a Slam final.
Comments: Absolutely a classic match! Honestly, I did not think Djokovic had it in him to stage a comeback like that! On two match points he hits the shots of his soon to be Hall of Fame career against one of the greatest of all time! Man that was clutch shot-making in what seemed to be a dire moment for him. Djokovic stopped the Final that would have been very historic for two other Hall of Fame candidates named Federer and Nadal at their first major final at the US Open. Djokovic showed what he was made of that day and it actually gave him a lot of confidence going into the end of the year which led to him making it to the Tour Finals and winning Davis Cup.
Djokovic has had a great start to begin the year and is really challenging Federer and Nadal for a stake and claim to be #1 in the world. This match gave him a stepping stone to achieve great heights into 2011. Time will tell towards the clay and grass which one of these champions ultimately come out on top. It has been a great end of 2010 and a great beginning to 2011 because of the intrigue with Fed, Nadal and Nole. Wonder who else may slip in to win big tournaments and win a major while these guys are competing? Stay tuned everyone!
