Head Extreme Black/Grey Men's Shoes Customer feedback

Comments: Bought shoes in May. Break-in period was about 1-2 weeks. Shoes are very good although the soles wear out much faster than the warranty period (6 months). Also one side is almost torn through (no warranty). Don't buy if you think you will be able to claim outsole warranty.

Comments: Had these shoes for 1.5 months now, playing 10 hours a week or so, practice/league/tournaments, mostly hard court, a couple of matches on clay. Other brands that I used recently were Nike (Air Oscillate [NAO] and Air Vapor V Tour [NAV]) and Adidas Barricades II [AB]. I prefer the Extremes to all of these. It does not hurt that they are half the price, but not a deciding factor for me. My (subjective, of course) ratings, out of 5: Comfort: HEX-4.6 NAO-3.2 NAV-4.4 AB-4.1 Cushioning: HEX-4.5 NAO-3.5 NAV-4.3 AB-4.0 Traction: HEX-4.5 NAO-3.0 NAV-4.6 AB-4.2 Support: HEX-4.5 NAO-4.0 NAV-4.7 AB-4.2 Cosmetics: HEX-4.0 NAO-3.5 NAV-4.2 AB-3.3 Durability (sole): HEX-4.5 NAO-? NAV-3.2 AB-3.5 Durability (upper): HEX-4.8 NAO-? NAV-4.5 AB-2.5 I put Oscillates aside after 2 week break-in, just too uncomfortable for match play, wear them for serve practice occasionally. Vapor V were good but expensive, and no longer available anyway. Soles were worn out way too quickly, which stopped me from trying the current Vapor line. Barricades II were the shoes that I kept b

Comments: I've been wearing these shoes for 4 months now and overall, I'd rate them a B-class shoe. The lengthy break-in period was about 2 weeks for me. It was too rigid initially but once broken-in --held up well for lateral stability. I play at the 3.5-4.0 level, 3 hours 3-4 times a week and the composite soles are holding up well. At this rate, they'll last 6 months easily even considering I've played outdoors on asphalt all summer. However the uppers are fraying fast particularly around the ankle as someone else pointed out. These are good practice shoes that hold up well on hard court abrasion. Cushioning is comfortable but not too plush to delay quick burst action. Best feature is the toe-cap durability as I'm a big-time toe dragger and there's minimal wear on the toe. I'd buy another if the uppers were made better....I'm going to try the new Yonex.

Comments: These are overall good shoes. Durability is excellent. For the price they're a good buy. However, one problem: I have normal-width feet and they're a little narrow for my feet. I even hurt my feet on them. But for this, I would continue buying them.

Comments: This is an update to my earlier review. I sent the shoes back, cost $8. Received a pair of Head Radical shoes in two weeks. They paid for the shipping. After wearing these shoes, I purchased Babolat All Court 4. The Head Extreme were much more durable. I wore through the All Court 4's in less than a month. When I send those shoes back for my replacement pair, I have to pay for shipping ($8), and pay a $10 shipping and handling fee. Head doesn't do this. Props to head for the easy and seamless returns process.

Comments: Ordered these hoping their dominant name would say something for the shoes as well. Size 10.5 were good for me in New Balance, but these are too snug and have a roll over feel to them. On clay even with my 3.0 rating I have confidence with these things. I am returning them without court testing them.

Comments: These shoes are great for the clay court, but I can't recommend anyone using the shoes on a hot hard court. My feet burned up. Otherwise, it's a dependable shoe that's good for tennis but even better for a stroll.

Comments: I've been wearing shoe since end of June 09 and side part is ripping off and material around ankle is frayed. Not pleased with durability.
From: Joe, New Milford, CT, USA. 7/09

Comments: I highly recommend these shoes. They were real tough to break in and they were downright painful during that period, but then again I've got a wide foot. But once that horrible period was over these things were great to play in. I'm a real toe-dragger (I can tear through a pair of Nike's in a couple week's worth of play) but the toe-box held together along with everywhere else on the shoe that received regular contact with the court. The only reason I'm retiring my current pair is I've worn a hole in the bottom of one of the souls, but that was after about four months of nearly daily play.

Comments: These are great shoes. I purchased them because of the 6th month guarantee, and I am glad I did. Played 2 times a week for three hours, and had a hole in the shoes after 2 months. I will be mailing them back to head, and getting my replacement shoes.

Comments: I bought these trying to save some money, and you get what you pay for. I went through the soles of these shoes in 3 weeks. I will not buy head shoes again.

Comments: After an exhaustive search for a shoe that looked decent with an exaggerated toe cap, these shoes fit the bill. I think these shoes actually corrected my stance and toe drag. At least, I didn't wear the toe area much at all. Very comfortable fit and supportive. This is "a lot of shoe". Perhaps, a bit heavy, but not unnecessarily; there is a lot of rubber in the outsole. The only thing that really, aesthetically, degraded was the ventilation screens (doesn't affect playing). I'm heavy on my feet and these shoes were great for me. Note: I normally wear a size 10 (u.s), but I had to order a 10.5 (u.s).

Comments: Great shoes. I like the way they perform on the court, and also like the way they look for off-court wear. Comfortable. Have used them on hard courts a few times, and they seem to be wearing very well. (I haven't tried them on soft courts yet.) An excellent value for the price -- I already picked up an additional pair.

Comments: Excellent shoe. Fits my 10.5 D width shoe perfectly. Wider in the toe box than Nike Breathe Cages, more support and stiffer initially than the Prince T-22s, less bulky then the Adidas Barricade Vs. The TW write-up is right on the money.

Comments: Awesome shoes. I owned a pair of the old Head Strong court shoes and loved them. The Extremes are just as amazing. The sole is SOLID, and gives you a secure feeling on the court. They are slightly rigid and stiff at first, but they break in very quickly. Head shoes are by far the best court shoes I have ever owned.
