Dunlop Aerogel 1000 (1Thousand) Racquets Customer feedback
Comments: I was concerned about the 118 head size of this frame but have had no problem adjusting to it. I had the racquet strung at the highest tension for control and that seems to work well considering that the racquet already has enough power. With this racquet and stringing, I've added a drop shot on the forehand side that I didn't have before. Very pleased with it and a great price!
Comments: This is the most spin I have ever gotten with any racquet I have played with,
particularly on slice. I do agree with the other comments that you must string above tension. It does not take long to get used to this particular racquet. It's amazing at net because of the head size and lightweight allowing for maneuverability. The best part about this racquet is the lightweight and the fact that you can take full swings at baseline and the ball will stay in with
the high tension. Absolutely no complaints three months after purchase so far.
Comments: This is a great racquet. It performs well with an all court game. Control and power combination is just right. I can keep the ball deep and vary pace and spin easily. I also find that angles are easy to find. You can slice and dice well with it or rip heavy topspin shots with it. I try and vary my game as much as possible and this racquet allows me to do that pretty effortlessly. It is very stable since most of the weight is in the head.
Comments: Sure, this stick can put a ball into orbit, but if you take a full swing it will put it back to the baseline hard and deep. Its power is equally matched by its feel. I'm hitting better angles and dropping in more touch shots. There is nice pop and spin on the serve as well. The 4 1/2" grip is very cushiony and seems more like a 4 3/8". It's great for singles and even better for doubles!
Comments: First impression was, "That's a huge racquet head 118 sq.in!" Strung it with Prince Strings at the racquet's max tension of 65 lbs (tension range is 55-65 lbs). I have had other Dunlops, Wilson, Babolat & Adidas racquets but this Aerogel 1000 has the best feel thus far IMHO. After 3 days of hard-hitting play, the string broke during serve. Subsequently restrung it with Babolat's Hybrid (Pro Hurricane & N.Vy) at 60 lbs. I popped in the Babolat Gel VibDamper. All these combination seems to make the racquet feel absolutely fantastic to me.
Guess what, a few days later, I bought another one just in case they run out or Dunlop doesn't make them anymore. Personally, this is the best tennis racquet I have ever played with. It's like stumbling on something that was meant for you, if you know that feeling. And the Dunlop Comfort grip is really comfortable, no sweaty palms, just soft and cushy.
The shots have a loud satisfying "pop" and the guys have been commenting on the serves, topspins and far corner shots etc. It has made a huge difference to my enjoyment of my tennis games now.
Don't take my word for it, though. Try it for yourself. Only you can tell what feels right for you. Best of luck!
Comments: I agree with the above players that above your normal tension and weight makes this a much better racquet. I also wrapped a replacement grip over the normal grip, brought the balance to 1 pt. head-heavy. I have medium length, fast strokes, and had no problem keeping the ball in the court deep. Serves and volleys were clean, powerful, and accurate. Had a bit of vibration, used a Shockbuster II to solve that. Highly recommended it for similar players.
Comments: Dunlop aerogel 1000 strung above recommended tension 72lbs. Extended to 28 inches. From the stock 27.5 one ounce added to tail-weight. Total strung weight 10.4 ounces. Darn close to even balance. Enables full and hearty cuts over the ball, as well as the ability to impart sweet slice for approaches. Racket volley's sweet, precise and controlled. Serves are consistent and effective going for the big flat one or hitting the kicker out wide. Terrific control with this string set-up, as well the ability to really hit out. Don't let the size of this frame scare you off, correctly weighted and strung you would be hard pressed to find any deficiencies here. Touch and feel are also present. I experiment constantly with all types of frames, and as importantly strings (if not more so). I have about sixteen hard-hitting sets on this string job, and no indication of wear. Initial tension loss, ~6 lbs. After which strings settled in consistently, very little if any string movement. If you have the strokes this frame/string will not let you down, swing for the fences...plenty of control here.
Comments: Let's get this out of the way first. Tension used is above recommended. I string all my own frames and have done so for 30 years. This frame handles this tension effortlessly. Six point mounting system top of the line Alpha stand up mechanical tensioning. I bought a couple of these frames on a lark, I was somewhat surprised by the excessive diameter of the beam, just slightly narrower that the old profile, and without the dual taper. Originally strung the frame with Tecnifibre Tr Pro 15L at the above referenced tension. Played well enough, though not much power. Played three sets today with the Gosen/Head set up. Incredible spin, increased power, and terrific feel and touch. Groundies were controlled, with access to both slice and topspin off both sides. Serve was accurate and I was able to flatten it out, as well as kick it up, and volleys were controlled and accurate, whether driving deep, or feathering drops. I will also add here, that the stock version of this frame is 27.5 inches in length, upon receipt of the frame I lengthened it to 28 inches. The grip was a standard 3/8ths, and I added and additional Babolat replacement grip around that. Two reasons: When I play with an extended frame I usually go up a grip size, secondly in a head-heavy frame, a replacement grip adds about an ounce of weight to the handle. Synopsis: This frame is capable of controlled hitting with placement and pace from all areas of the court: it is not restricted to short little pushy strokes, as it was designed to be. With the set-up as described you are free to take healthy cuts at the ball from all areas of the court, with solid and predictable results. As importantly it has great controlled touch. As when answering a drop on the dead run with another drop. The key in this instance, I believe is the string combo, the stiffness of the OG micro, and the soft Head FXP in the thin gauge is a good hybrid marriage. The Aerogel 1000, set-up as described has no short-comings, it weighs in at 10.4 ounces: It may not be the "Holy Grail" however, as described one could enjoy some really deft play focusing on where on court you want the ball to go, with out any concern whatsoever as how you are going to get it there.
