Customer feedback

Comments: So disappointed with this shoe. Way too high off the court, inadequate ventilation and not nearly enough cushioning for me. My feet begged for new shoes after just a few minutes on the court. I knew they are known for requiring break-in, so I stuck with them for 2 months. Big mistake. Have since switched to Head Prestige shoes and my feet are grateful (not to mention my all-court game).
From: Danny, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. 6/08

Comments: These shoes are great. I have a wide foot and these shoes break-in quickly. I've had other Barricades, and they all are good shoes. These seem to be heavier than the others, but you will adapt quickly.
From: Andy, North Richland Hills, Texas. 6/08

Comments: These shoes are OK at best. They provide good support but feel clunky and heavy. When I'm playing I can sometimes actually notice them on my feet. They look good and are durable but too heavy and bulky for my taste. And yes you could "put up" with the weight issue, but for $100 plus why should you? Better options are available.
From: ROB, Charlotte, NC, USA. 6/08

Comments: Great shoe. They really fit my flat feet well and have great traction. I played with them for about two months. I have practice five times a week so they are very long lasting considering all the running I do at practice.
From: Alex, USA. 6/08

Comments: These shoes are some of the best court shoes I have owned. There is a couple of problems, though; when I started to wear these they gave me terrible blisters on my ankles and were a little heavier than my previous Barricade 3s. These lost their grip on the bottom, and I wore a hole in them relatively fast. I am switching to the new Feather IIIs because of the weight and that they allow my foot to breathe more. Overall this was a very good shoe!
From: Dylan, Lubbock, Texas, United States. 5/08

Comments:Seriously, what's all the hype about the Barricades being all heavy? It's supposed to be a durable shoe, and I'm sure Adidas intended it to be that heavy for that purpose. That's why there's something called a BREAK-IN period. But on a lighter note, The Adidas Barricade IV is really stable and is actually surprisingly comfortable. You don't even feel the 18ish ounces after breaking in. They also have AMAZING traction. Probably the best I've had so far. And with a plus, The US Open kicks look so crispy for casual wear too!
From: Albert, Buffalo, NY, USA, 05/08

Comments: I agree with one of the comments below; if you’re complaining about fractions of an ounce, you have serious problems. The entire barricade line is amazing. The shoes are durable and comfortable. That's all a person really needs to worry about. The lighter the shoe is, the less durable it is, simple as that. Here in America, what with all the hard courts, durability is one of the most important aspects of a shoes. This shoes definitely offers that durability. All these people complaining about A POUND on their foot. That's the most asinine thing I've ever heard of. If a person cannot last a couple of hours with of pound on their foot, they shouldn’t even be picking up a racquet.
From: Anon, 05/08

Comments: An overall solid shoe with great stability. However, it is simply too heavy for my liking. I found myself with "dead feet" frequently as a result of the mass of the shoe. If you Sean, Melbourne, VIC. Australia. 5/08
From: can handle it, though, they're incredibly durable and stable.

Comments: I think the Barricade IV is a really excellent all-around shoe. I did not use the earlier models, but I found this version to be everything I wanted in a hard court shoe and more. I was slightly concerned at first that the weight would affect my footwork, and it did to begin with. However, I adapted after about 4 hits, and I now believe that a slightly greater weight on this model is integral to its strong and reliable feel. I definitely felt like my feet were being aided by cutting edge technology.
From: Lawrence, Leicstershire, UK. 5/08

Comments: For everyone that says these shoes are too heavy or clunky, PLEASE hit the gym, or start seriously evaluating your tennis level. These shoes are designed for PLAYERS, quick stopping, and heavy abuse. If you cant handle them, get a lighter shoe... period.
From: Chris, Leonia, NJ, USA, 04/08

Comments: I have also experienced foot pain in my big toe joint, bottom to top of foot. Never before have I ever had this kind of pain. I switched shoes, pain subsided. You tell me what the problem is. The IIs are great, wore them for a couple years. I am hoping adidas will honor my warranty with a pair of IIs, instead.
From: Russ, Grafton, Mass. 4/08

Comments: While these are great shoes, I think the styling is way too conservative. There is so much potential in a "stars and stripes" design. And especially since these shoes were premiered by the top doubles team, who are twins, AND Americans, they really should've been styled in more of a youthful design. I would've loved more red and a good deal of blue. I still enjoy the design AND the performance, I just would've liked more color and "flavor."
From: Anon. 4/08

Comments: These are not very good shoes if you have a narrow foot. They are very uncomfortable around the toe area. The things felt like bricks on my feat. Another thing is that whenever I had to take a big step it hurt because the soles aren't very comfortable.
From: Mike, Dallas, Tx. 3/08

Comments: These are very good shoes. They are durable and well worth the price. I got them when they were $110 so now they are cheaper. You should get them!
From: Luke, Oneonta, NY. 3/08

Comments: These shoes are durable and well made, but they are also heavy! They should call them tennis boots! I'm a half a step slower in these shoes. Call me crazy but why put a heavy weight at the end of your leg? Also the collar of the shoe comes up a little high, and it started to rub the bottom of my ankle bone on the medial side of my foot. It began hurting so bad that I can't wear these shoes anymore.
From: John, Riverside, Ca., USA. 3/08

Comments: The Barricade IV is great. I have the black/white/red Barricade 4, and I love them. The inside cushioning and the stability are great. I play a lot of tennis for my high school, as well as tournaments, and these shoes meet all of my expectations while I am playing. The only downside to them is that they took some time to break in. I would take the IVs over any other Barricade model.
From: Lewis, Salisbury, North Carolina, USA. 3/08

Comments: These shoes really hurt my feet. It's like the side of a quarter being pushed into the top of my feet every time I take a step now. I've been using it 2-3 weeks now.
From: Dale, Rockville, MD, USA. 3/08

Comments: This shoe is really durable. This shoe lasted me for 5 1/2 months! I can get another pair of these because it has 6 month warranty! Yay!
From: Steven S., Torrance, Ca, USA. 2/08

Comments: I love this shoe! Very durable. I have had it for a year already. The soles are worn out a little bit but still in good condition. I play tennis 2 hours, 4 times a week, and these shoes are still in good shape. They are a little heavy but once you put them on, your legs won't feel heavy. Great shoe, Adidas!
From: Eric, Jakarta, Indonesia. 2/08

Comments: This is a great shoe. I've owned it for a week. It barely shows any wear. I'm a very active player and usually play 12 hours a week. They are proving to be very durable and not heavy like a lot of people say.
From: Daniel, Booneville, MS, United States. 2/08

Comments: Good shoe -- a little to bulky but overall a good shoe. The arch hurt my foot so I had to get new insoles. I am giving a warning about the arch that it may hurt your foot.
From: Kyle, Raleigh, NC, US. 1/08

Comments: Everyone who says these shoes are "too heavy" or "clunkers" need to hit the leg presses at the gym. These are actually a good weight. Plus they help propel me through the court. Amazing shoes and perfect.
From: Anon, 01/08

Comments: I love these shoes. I just got them 10 minutes ago. I out them on my feet and knew they were better than my previous shoes (Babolat Propulse).
From: Lanny, NY, USA. 1/08

Comments: These are so stiff when you first wear them. Once you have them broken in (8-10 days), they're nice and comfy, but keep your feet encased for those aggressive sprints.
From: Alex, Spring, TX, USA. 1/08

Comments: If you play hard court surfaces and cause a lot of wear on the toe, these shoes will be ruined in short time. Fortunately they have a 6-month warranty that Adidas does honor. I have a narrow foot so one problem was it would feel too loose on me, and as someone pointed out laces will quickly be worn out and you are always having to tie them. That's not a big deal because laces are pretty cheap. It's very stiff at first but becomes very comfortable over time, but if you have a narrow foot try something different.
From: J, Los Angeles, California, USA. 12/07

Comments: I wouldn't recommend this shoe. I used Barricade II before these and was very very satisfied with them, but this Barricade IV is horrible. I feel like it's a soccer shoe at the bottom and ski boot on the top. My feet hurts really bad from top to bottom. I usually do not give feedback unless I use the shoe for at least a month because some shoes get better after couple of days, but these were horrible even after a month. I would go back to Barricade II.
From: Ryan, Sunnyvale, CA, USA. 12/07

Comments: This is a great shoe. Very comfortable once your break them in. The break-in period is not very long either. I just wore them to school for a couple of weeks before the other shoes were completely trashed. This shoe is extremely stable and has great overall traction. The durability is also good. However, I wore through mine in about 4-5 months only becasue I play tennis very often. I called TW to get some info on how to warranty my shoes, and I must say I was extremely pleased to have some good old-fashioned customer service. I was off the phone in two minutes with everything I needed to know. Thanks!
From: Joe, Delafield, WI. 12/07

Comments: I've had Barricade II, III and IV:s. II and IV are too narrow and low for me. IV, especially, gives me foot pain for two days after any lengthy match. III was precisely right but not as stable as the other two. So I'm waiting for a V, which will combine the best of the lot.
From: Anders, NY, USA, 11/07

Comments: These shoes are great and very comfortable right out of the box. I have worn the Barricades II‚s, III‚s and now IV‚s. I have always been happy with the durability of the Barricades (I play 5 to 6 times a week). The problem I am having with the Barricade IV‚s is the shoe laces keep breaking at the metal lace eyelets. The metal shoelace eyelets seem to be sharp and cause the shoelaces to fray and eventually break. I have had this problem on 2 pairs of the Barricades IV‚s now.
From: Jim, West Linn, OR, USA, 11/07

Comments: Adidas Barricade IV has a very cool design, no doubt about it, but I have encountered problems during my use. My toes starting to hurt, and I have replaced my shoe laces twice for the last 6 months. It wears out easily because of too much rubbing of each shoe's lace eyelet. The shoes, though, seem durable. I will resort to other brands instead for comfort.
From: Lester, Cebu City, Philippines. 11/07

Comments: These are great shoes. Great grip, super durable and very comfortable. I did replace the insoles to improve the cushoning, but I do that on all shoes. As for the RED Shanghai Ltds. you have to be prepared for the trash-talk from your buddies and passers-by. I love red anything...including these shoes! What a smart marketing strategy to come up with these limited edition shoes! I hope Addias will continue to create these wilder designs in addition to the typical "vanilla" stuff all the tennis companies introduce. I have been very loyal to Nike until recently, due to their lack of bravado in their designs. Can't they remember the good old days when they had Sampras and Agassi, and two distinct styles? Come on guys, not everyone wants to wear the same white shoes and conservative clothes. Have your brand managers visit some of their counterparts in other sports. Let's expand the design-envelope and expand the sport's reach! Way to go Adidas!
From: Rex, Granite Bay, CA, USA. 11/07

Comments: I am a competitive junior playing 5+ times per week, and while these shoes hold up to my durability and support needs, the weight is lacking. I can understand why some people say these shoes don't feel heavy because at times they don't. But when it's late in the match, you want shoes that you can move your feet quickly when you have them on. I tried these and the Breathe Cage, and chose these for their support, and also, the Cage felt very cheap. Overall, these shoes would get a 7.5 out of 10.
From: Matt, Cape Elizabeth, ME. 11/07

Comments: I started with the Barricade IIIs, which I found lasted me a ridiculous length of time, 2-3 times longer then my past shoes. Sure they're a heavier shoe, but in the long run, a lot lighter on your wallet! I'm onto the Barricade IVs now and have just ordered another pair. I won't use any other shoes for tennis now. I've also got weak ankles, and these shoes have amazing support and balance for them. Adidas, my ankles thank you!
From: Nick N., Adelaide, Australia. 11/07

Comments: These shoes are terrible. I wouldn't recommend these shoes. They feel like bricks on your feet.
From: Mitch, Perth, Australia. 11/07

Comments: These shoes are great! They are awesome to play in also. I play 3 hours a day every day and they are always great to play in. Plus they look cool.
From: Malas, Eden Prairie, MN, USA, 11/07

Comments: This shoe is great for any average or advanced player.I play tournaments at a high level almost every week and the shoes are still great!
From: Connor, Elgin, South Carolina, United States. 11/07

Comments: These are somewhat heavy. They beat your feet up. Comfort is terrible, but their durability is incredible. If you don't care about comfort, but like looking good and want a long-lasting shoe, get this.
From: Eric, Seattle, WA, US. 11/07

Comments: This shoe is great, and it looks cool. I play 3 hours a day, and they are still in good shape. With the cool design, these shoes are a 10 out of 10. Plus, you can make sudden stops easily with them.
From: Eugine, Duluth, MN, USA. 11/07

Comments: These shoes were very stiff from the get go, which I expected since they have a 6-month guarantee, and most shoes are if they are guaranteed. However, they were not near as comfortable as the Barricade II or the Prince T10. My first pair of these wore out within the first two months of play. Adidas stood behind them and gave me a replacement pair and now they are wearing out and I have had them for less than two months. Next time, I will go with a Prince because they are much more comfortable and last longer. I play once or twice a week.
From: Dierek, Bentonville, AR, USA. 11/07

Comments: I am a speedster on the courts, and these shoes did not help me. The Barricade II was so much better. People who liked this shoe probably have never tried the Barricade II. The Barricade IV is hurting my feet when I push off (above the toe box). I originally thought that the leather was stiff because they were new, but they never softened after several matches. I am highly disappointed. I wasted my money on these shoes. I should have stuck to the Barricade II's - they're still making them, for good reason.
From: John, San Jose, CA. 10/07

Comments: I liked these so much I bought a second pair. Unfortunately they weren't as comfortable as the first ones. But maybe I just need to break them in a bit more. But once I'm on the court everything is fine. The traction and stability is great with these. I play mostly on HarTru courts, but these are super on hard courts as well. Some people complain that these shoes are too heavy ... but with a six-month warranty you can't expect to be walking on feathers. And the extra weight helps me dig in for better traction on the HarTru. Has anyone every noticed that with the lightweight shoes it seems hard to make quick turns on the clay? No problem at all with these bad boys. But you do have to hoof a little faster if you want to get there. One thing I will say is that my hips and legs hurt a lot less after a long match with these than any shoes I ever wore before.
From: Lance, New York, NY, USA. 10/07

Comments: This shoe is not for the average knock around player. Someone who grinds his feet while playing will love this shoe as it is probably the most durable shoe out there. I have worn all Barricades to date, and this is by far the nicest and most stable. However, it is very heavy compared to the other shoes I have worn and is nothing compared to Adidas's other clay court shoes such as the Feather Lite series. Give it a try.
From: Malcolm, Wareham, MA, USA. 10/07

Comments: I am with Adidas Barricades shoes since 3 years now and they are the best shoes I ever had, really stable and more and more comfortable. But enough small talk, I just received my stars and stripes today from Tennis Warehouse (I'm from Montreal, Canada) and WOW, they look even better in reality, I am probably exaggerating but close to a work of art. By the way, bravo Tennis warehouse, excellent service.
From: Andre, Montreal, Canada, 07/07

Comments: These shoes are the best! I love them they are light weight and really flexible, buy they ware out a lot for someone who plays eight hours a day every day... I would give these shoes a 7 1/2 out of ten!
From: Nico, Dallas, TX, USA, 04/07

Comments: These shoes ROCK!!! Great support and comfortable. I play 4-5 times a week and I play hard on my shoes and I do wear shoes quickly. Unlike the Nike Vapor Speed these shoes hold up for more than 6 months. I recommend these shoes to any beginning and experienced players that lone tennis. Great for any kind of court.
From: Brandon, Pueblo, CO, USA. 4/07

Comments: I play 3-7 hours of tennis a day and they are the best. I play a tournament every week. These shoes are great for hard, clay, and grass. Twelve year olds like me will think they are very cool! Get a pair.
From: Conor, Dublin, Ireland. 11/06

Comments: Extremely good on the feet for my little junior 9 year old girl. No more foot or sole or toe abrasions. Good air circulation. My daughter has now played nonstop 3.5 hour matches, runs like the wind. Good on the legs, knees, posture. And YES, my daughter says they DO look cool too.
From: David, Md, U.S.A. 08/06

Comments: These shoes are good for running, getting to short balls, stopping, and much more. Once I saw them I knew people will be jealous, and they were.
From: Andrew, Atlanta, GA 6/06

Comments: These shoes are really long lasting and look COOL I play 4-7 hours a day. I've give them an eight out of ten.
From: Frankie Fischer, Texas 05/06

Comments: These shoes are quite chill. They are fast and really good looking. They give great movement and make you do better. Seriously, they even make you feel cool. A lot of people are jealous of mine. Some people copied me and got a pair. That is how cool they are. I LOVE THESE SHOES!
