Overview

Weiss CANNON Dual Reality is a very comfortable hybrid with above average power, touch and feel. The thin co-poly mains give this hybrid some serious spin potential, while the soft synthetic gut crosses add comfort and pop. Taken together this combo offers truly exceptional playability with controllable power. Our playtesters were very impressed with the responsiveness of this one.
Note: For the best performance the manufacturer recommends stringing the crosses 6 lbs higher than the mains.

  • Gauge: Mains: 17L/1.18mm. Crosses: 16/1.32mm
  • Length: Mains: 20 feet (6.4m). Crosses: 17.7 feet (5.4m)
  • Construction: Mains: Co-polyester. Crosses: Synthetic Gut.
  • Color: Mains: Black. Crosses: Silver.

Much love for Dual RealityLast month, I had my tennis shop put my first full set of Dual Reality on my Babolat Pure Drive at 55 lbs on the crosses and 49 on mains. The stringer commented that she thought the 55 on the crosses was too high and I wasn't sure because it's it's my first set. But so far, it plays great. I had been using RPM Blast 17 for about a year now and found that string was awesome for spin and control but I had to replace it more often than I prefer. The Dual Reality gives me a great feel for the ball and I get surprisingly good depth on well-struck balls. The spin and depth is just as good as hitting with a full set of RPM Blast 17. Sometimes, I think a ball will go long but then it comes down on or inside the line. Love that. Haven't replaced it yet and I play 3-4 or more times each week at about the 3.0 level. Recently bought two more sets from TW. Will update this review if needed.

Comments: Plush is probably the best word to describe this string combo. I'm 34 and tend to hit a pretty heavy ball. I use a Prince Tour 100P and had been running gut mains and RPM Blast crosses at 55lbs (max the racquet recommends). I was looking for a string with a little more power with less effort and good comfort. This string is very interesting. The mains are pretty typical, but the synthetic gut cross string is odd. It's very pliable like most synthetic guts, but not overly stretchy, and has somewhat of a rubber coating on the outside that helps the strings really lock in place once strung. I strung this set up at 49lbs for the mains, 55lbs for the crosses and found it to be incredibly comfortable to play with. I didn't notice much difference in power or control. What I did notice though, was how comfortable this string is. I've had two elbow surgeries in the last 3 years, and this string didn't bother me at all. For about the first 6 sets of doubles, the strings were very consistent in their feeling and playability, and they had no movement. About 9 sets in, I started having a little bit of string movement, and the occasional sprayed ball. 12 sets in, and the string is moving quite a bit in the string bed, and I'm getting a few more erratic shots here and there. It's not uncontrollable, I just can't swing with the same confidence I could the first 9 sets. The string doesn't look to be grooving that heavily, despite my string-breaking swing style. What has been consistent with this string though, is the plush comfort it has. I really, really like the way it feels. I may go up a bit in tension to see if I can get some extended play out of my next set. Overall though, very impressed with the string.

Comments: I am amazed by the spin this hybrid of round strings produces. Even leaves ball fuzz on the stringbed and fuzzes up the balls like a shaped polyester. Great control, arm-friendly, very soft, gut-like feel. I have used it in 90, 95, and 100 size frames. I am 63 and play three to four times a week for more than 30 years. I wish they would sell the cross string separately in a reel.

Comments: I love this Weiss Cannon string combination. I've tried three different hybrid setups, in search for one that fits my game best. I guess I have to consider myself lucky to have found this one so early into the search, other tennis players probably try many more hybrid combinations before discovering the one that works for them. I like the spin, control, pop, the feel of the ball on the strings, literally everything about this hybrid stringbed. There are probably many other hybrid options out there that would work well for me, but I am quite satisfied with Dual Reality, and plan to play this exclusively for the foreseeable future. I am 64, play four times a week, and am at the 4.0 level. I have these strings in my 98 square inch Dunlop; the mains are strung at 50 pounds, and the crosses at 55.

Comments: For the longest time I've been using multifilament strings and have been interested in trying something in the "poly" realm for greater access to spin and control. I figured a full poly string setup would be too firm for my arm, so thought I'd try a hybrid setup. After reviewing many of the options, I decided to go with the Dual Reality string. Thus far I love this string. It's a very comfortable string and provides very good access to spin and greater control. The power level of the string is just right. I strung it per the instructions on my Head Instinct Adaptive racquet, with the mains strung at 49 pounds and crosses at 55 pounds. The string has greatly improved the spin on my serves and I now feel like I can go after any shot I want given the improved spin and control. Kudos to Weiss CANNON for producing such a nice hybrid setup.

Comments: I got a Klippermate a while ago and I finally did my first string job with these strings. Replacing Weiss CANNON Ultra Cable (not recommended) that came with my used Angell TC 97. What a difference! I only got to hit for 30 minutes because it started raining. I was attacking the ball with excellent results. No elbow issues even when the ball got damp and I wanted to hit it harder. I think I finally found the answer for my elbow and confidence. Happy Hitting!

Comments: I've used this in 2 frames. Don't string it like a normal hybrid. Follow the instructions. For me that's 48 lbs in the mains and 56 lbs on the crosses in a 95 square inch frame. I strung one too tight and it was like a board horrible feeling. On a Yonex Tour G 97 (290g) it has a nice feeling although a little stiff. 2nd set hung around for a year and I threw it in a 95 square inch Pacific Xforce BX2 -- awesome. Those mains need to move. Interesting to note the crosses don't notch. Which helps the mains move. Low power but good dwell. Power when you want it. I'm buying more.

Comments: I've really enjoyed this string. I love the spin. And the pop from this string has been brilliant. I tried a full bed of poly but found that to aggravate my elbow. I tried the Gamma Moto/Glide hybrid but found that the Touch and pop off the string was diminished but the spin was brilliant. I switched back to the Dual Reality with in 6 matches. Strung on a Volkl Organix 7 295 at 53/47 lbs.

Comments: I have been playing with hybrid strings now for more than 15 years (when I was approaching 40 years old). Anyone who strings or plays with hybrids will tell you that you will never know what will be the result of your own hybrid experiment untill you try the combination. I tried this hybrid last year and then I have experimented with other hybrids with Wilson Revolve as the main string. I have done many combinations also before (WC Turbotwist and WC Explosive would be my 2nd choice). Now I am back to WC Dual Reality -- I do not want to waste any more time and any more money to find out "strings which play instead of me." This combination is really great and has optimum control and comfort -- I am happy that WC invented it. I have to say (after playing tennis for more than 40 years) you should stick to whatever what works for you. So I stick to WC Dual Reality. It saved me time and money too. I really trust to Weiss Cannon because it works for me.

Comments: This is my first experience with hybrids, so I have nothing to compare it to. But I was looking for an arm-friendly hybrid that would provide more performance than a full bed of syn gut, and so far, so good. I definitely like this stuff. I had it strung on my Blade 104 at 51 lbs (mains) and 57 lbs (crosses) lbs, based on the directions on the package. I feel like it offers more access to spin, and so far, no issues with my arm. I'm going to explore some other options as well, but so far I would definitely recommend this to anyone who's looking for an arm-friendly hybrid.

Comments: Great strings. I had been using gut for the last few years and that just seemed to be getting expensive, so I decided to give Dual Reality a try. Quite glad I did, very comfortable with loads of control. I couldn't be more pleased. Strung as recommended on a Prince EXO3 Black Team 100
From:Kurt, 4/13

Comments: Very comfortable setup with superb control is where this hybrid really shines. Average to low powered and average on spin but big hitters looking for control may want to check out Dual Reality strings. Strung at 51/56 in a Dunlop F3.0 tour.
From:Thomas, 4/13

Comments: Update. After a few hours the grey cross string started to scuff and turn whitish. After 60-90 minutes the gnarly sounds fade away. The tension seems to have dipped a little, but the playability, control, spin potential and comfort after that tiny dip remain very well and constant. The power is still controllable. I will cut it out and restring. I still like this string. I wonder how it will perform outdoors on clay. I tested it indoors with Babolat Roland Garros tennis balls, playing with Dunlop Aerogel 4D 200 Tour. I'm a 4.5 attacking, all court player.

Comments: Nice! I really enjoyed these strings. I strung them up at the recommended tension for a 95 sq.in. frame and it performed far above my expectations. I played on an indoor hard court with Babolat Roland Garros tennis balls. My current hybrid is Yonex Poly Tour Pro 125/Weiss Cannon Explosiv. These strings helped me control my shots better. They complemented me very well when applying spin and provided my shots with more than sufficient power. Dual Reality Hybrid is a very comfortable combo. When struck in the sweet in the decent sized sweet spot, it produced a gnarly bang! I'm getting more. Now.

Comments: I'm surprised nobody has commented on these before. These strings truly are trippy. I now understand the name and psychedelic packaging. Out of the bag they have a strong odor, but I didn't inhale. It clears out after a while but stringing these on my drop stringer was a new "Experience". This was the first string I've strung that's super stretchy, like a rubber band. Elasticity is obviously very high on crosses. This makes the string an absolute breeze to thread, pliable as a shoelace, and so easy on the fingers and quick to string. This is the most comfortable poly string I've found, yet they still have good feel and great control. Super great control in fact despite not having as "tactile" a feel as others, like my fave TourBite/Vanquish combo, I may actually like these better overall though. With such high elasticity I was actually worried about a trampoline effect, but in reality control is fantastic. However, when I serve or crush a forehand they reach back for nice controlled power and spin. I can't speak for durability yet, but I am a fan of strings that don't move and saw each other. I'm a fan. I strung it at Weiss' recommended 49/55 lbs tension on a Donnay X Dual Gold 94.
