Overview

Tourna Black Zone offers remarkable precision on full swings. This thinner gauge provides easier access to pace, a slightly softer feel, opens up the sweetspot a tad, but has slightly less durability compared to the 16 gauge version. With its slick surface, this string snaps back into place very effectively in order to impart more spin to the ball. Though it feels very crisp and quite firm, we found this string to have above average comfort for a poly-based offering. Players looking for a user friendly control string with great spin should love Black Zone.

  • Gauge: 17/1.25mm
  • Length: 40ft/12m
  • Composition Co-polyester
  • Colors: Black

Note: Tourna has changed their gauge protocol back to 16/1.30mm & 17/1.25mm for their poly-based strings

Hidden gemYou don't hear much about this string, but it is a great under the radar co-poly. Excellent control and tension maintenance along with very good spin and above average comfort. On the low powered side, and works great for me at 46 lbs in my Wilson Blade 98 16x19.

Try itOne of the best strings I have ever used and I used many. Try it, highly recommended.

Comments: I used this as a hybrid setup with Black Zone 17 in the mains at 52 lbs and Gosen Synthetic Gut 16 in the crosses at 51 lbs in a Prince Tour 100 16 x18 very nice.

Comments: A very good choice for "rocket launchers" like the Xi/Ai100 or APD. If you have a full swing, this string makes your racquet very controllable. Every shot is powerful and low profile. After two weeks and 15+ hours of hitting it is playable, even though shredding and pops a little more. Volk Cyclone and Tourna Big Hitter Blue worked for me as well, but Cyclone takes time to break in and dies within 2 weeks. With more power than Big Hitter Blue, the trajectory is much higher, it's hard to control the depth.

Comments: I'm not really a fan of the other Tourna polys, but this one is a winner. It has great feel, great control and last longer than most polys. For this price point this is a no brainer.

Comments: I have used these strings in a hybrid with RPM Blast. Black Zone as the main and it felt fantastic -- great spin, great power and a consistent string bed. I hybrid it with RPM simply cause I had a half set left over and I am sure glad I did.

Comments: If you are a fan of strings such as Savage black or Black Magic, then this string will be right up your alley. It has a similar soft feel like the strings listed above when strung as a full bed. In terms of power, I would rank Black Magic > Black Zone > Savage Black. Spin potential is about the same in all three strings. After about 6 hours of play, the strings show little movement and tension loss.
