Overview

With this update to the Speed MP, Head launches its revolutionary Adaptive String Pattern. This technology features interchangeable grommets at 3 and 9 o’clock, allowing the player to select a 16x19 string pattern or a 16x16 string pattern (for massive spin potential).

Like its predecessor, the Graphene XT Speed MP A is ideal for intermediate and advanced players who want a light player's racquet with controllable power. With its crisp and precise response, this stick feels very accurate and predictable across a variety of stroke speeds. From the baseline, the manageable 11.1 ounce weight will allow aggressive players to crank up the swing speed in the service of pace and spin. With the addition of Graphene XT to the shaft, Head has been able to move even more mass to the grip and tip. The result is a racquet that makes it easier for the player to load the ball with power. At net this racquet moves fast and delivers a lively yet precise response. The maneuverability also shines on service returns, where the Speed MP comes around very rapidly. With the ability to switch between a 16x19 and 16x16 string pattern, this racquet gives the player an almost unprecedented level of control over the racquet's response. All in all, this is an extremely impressive update to the Speed franchise.

Comments: An amazing racquet! Started off playing five years ago and used a Wilson ProStaff with an open pattern to access more spin but was inconsistent in response. Transitioned to the Speed MP but it had a bit too much flex and finally, this racquet. A beast! Easy power, spin (16x16) and pin point control playing with Solinco TourBite 19 ga at 39 lbs. Now, I can hit with 4.5s and take pace off the ball as needed. Wonderful racquet!

Comments: Very good stick. Crisp feel, lightweight but not too light, good balance between power and control. Very sweet.
From: Frank, 2/1/18

Comments: Have been playing with these racquets for 6 months after a lengthy demoing process. I am a USTA 4.5 rated player. In stock form, they played well. I have mine weighted up to 335g SW 325 and 7pts HL and they couldn't play better for me. The guys that I normally hit with say I am hitting a much heavier ball.

Comments: One word: amazing! I've tried this racquet in the 16x16 and 16x19 patterns, and both were really great. I tried it with a variety of strings, and I thought that a poly worked best. I suggest stringing it with Head Gravity at 55 pounds.
From: Surya, 4/16

Comments: This racquet is amazing! The Speed MP is more powerful than the Speed Pro. I am a 5.0 player and I've tried a lot of racquets, but this racquet is special. The weight is awesome. The Speed MP has a great touch and combination of power and control is very good. I suggest you to try this racquet. Trust me, you will love it. I would suggest stringing with Head Reflex MLT and Hawk.

Comments: Very nice racquet -- very maneuverable at the net and provides nice plow for groundstrokes. I found the right combination of weight, balance and stiffness. I use multi-filaments or a hybrid with gut. I highly recommend to give this racquet a try! I'm a 5.0 player.

Comments: I am a 4.0 player and played with the Speed MP for a year and it served me well. I bought a the Graphene XT Speed MPA racquet about a month ago, and I have been using the 16x16 string setup. I must report the MPA is definitely providing more speed to my groundstrokes and more pop on the serves. I have not experienced any control issues with the more open stringing pattern. I am playing with a multifilament at 54 pounds. The MPA is definitely a solid tennis racquet and I recommend to those looking for some additional power.

Comments: Nice cosmetics. I added 6 grams of lead to the 9 and 3 positions. The additional weight made a big difference in plow through. Slight change in balance to even or marginally head light. It's easy to string. And the new grip is much better than before. I tried the 16x16 setup without increasing string tension and it was difficult to keep the ball in play. Followed the guidelines that you should increase string tension by 2 pounds for every reduction in strings with open string pattern frames. So 16x19 to 16x16 loses 3 strings or 6 pounds higher tension. This worked! Similar control of a 16x19 but more spin and power with the open string pattern.

Comments: I just love this racquet. It has the stability and crisp feel I've come to appreciate while not being too stiff. Different from other open string pattern (16x16) racquets, it has more control. The weight is perfect -- no need to add lead. I have it strung it at 55 lbs with Luxilon 4G at 17 G. Working on the right grip in the humidity, but this is a great stick.

Comments: Good racquet, but I had to add about 20 grams of lead around the hoop. It responded to the lead beautifully though. I used to play with the Ti Radical OS, and this racquet (16x16) has a similar ball launch angle as that frame, it was an easy transition. I use the 16x16 pattern, strung with ALU Power or Tourbite at 50 lbs. Strings pop quick, but it's not really a problem for me.
From: Dennis, 6/15

Comments: I just love this racquet. The control from the 16x19 string pattern is awesome. And the topspin works very well still. It is very stiff, but also it feels very smooth.

Comments: Love this line from Head. The MPA is a little different from the last Graphene Speed MP, but in a good way. This model really needed lead at 3 and 9 to stabilize it on off center shots, but the added weight really makes this racquet sing. Just great for whatever shot you ask from it -- serves, groundies, touch/feel shots, slices, etc. All dialed in with this racquet. I loved the last version and I also love this one. Not really interested in trying the 16x16 pattern since the 16x19 seems perfect for my game. But it is a nice option to have if you play a more topspin oriented game. I hit semi-flat so I like the 16x19 pattern and it is actually a little more "closed" now than it was with the last model. I like this difference as it allows me to drive flat shots easier now.

Comments: This racquet is very good on the arm, I feel as if I can put the ball anywhere I want with very good spin. Coming from a Pure Drive, this racquet is a good change for my game.
From: Jesus, 3/15

Comments: I used to play with a Head Radical but recently I got 2 Head Speed XT MP A racquets and they are awesome. However, I tested the racquet with the 16x19 (nice control and spin is not bad; generate your own power) and the 16x16 set gave huge power and the spin is better. Actually I think the Speed MPA is better than the Radical. However this racquet feels very light. Head is making good weapons. I really suggest switching to this racquet!
From: Druu, 2/15

Comments: This racquet is awesome! The light weight allows one to whip the head through the hitting zone. But, it's amazingly stable at the same time. It's a great serving racquet! I am a 50 year old former college player, 5.0 level and high school tennis coach. Great precision with the 16x19 version. I also tried the 16x16 set up at first-amazing spin -- but broke strings in 15 minutes and it is harder to control. It may be light for some, but worth the trade off for racquet head speed.
From: Todd, 2/15

Comments: I got these racquets for Christmas and I absolutely love them. Right know I have the 16x16 pattern in them. I like how I get spin and the feel of it. These racquets have great feel and power to them. The only thing is that I have already broken the strings in the them in just under 3 days.

Comments: Contrary to the TW review, this is the best serving racquet I hit in a long time. It required moving the toss half a foot in front of my customary toss. The accelaration (due to the weight and "polarized" weighting of the Head Graphene) added both speed and spin significantly. I demoed this stick (with Hawk at 53 lbs, 16x16) on three different occassions. I had 16 aces in match #1, 14 in a doubles match #2, and 11 aces in a single set, plus a number of free points that were not aces, but pretty much unreturnable. Groundstrokes required a similar adjustment for optimum results -- hitting the ball further in front on both sides and swinging fast. One of my steady hitting partners said he simply could not handle the pace and spin. I did not like the harsh feel of the last generation Graphenes -- but this one felt crisp and not at all harsh -- in fact, easy on the arm. This stick did require a couple of adjustments as mentioned. On the other hand, this lightweight, toe and heel weighted stick might just be the harbinger of the next generation of racquets.

Comments: Got this Thursday and wasn't all that impressed with it. My game is a fair mix of playing at the baseline and at the net, and felt it was especially flaky with transition shots. Volleys were ok but most groundstrokes were fine (assuming they hit the small sweet spot). Overall, this isn't a bad stick, but I am gladly returning to the Blade 98 16x19.
From: Michael, 11/14

Comments: I hit with the Head Graphene XT Speed MPA for about 2 hours. My demo was strung with Head Hawk and was set up with the 16x16 string pattern. This is a good all around racquet like the previous Graphene Speed MP, but feels more headlight. I would add some head tape and/or lead tape to this racquet. The Graphene Speed XT MPA really helped my backhand - - both topspin and slice. It was very nice for volleys as well -- I was surprised by this considering the open string pattern. I could have used a little more weight for my forehand and my serve. Overall, I was pleased with the demo. Also, there are no more shared holes like there were in the previous version.
