0 StarsThis is what happens when Penn gets their balls of Temu.
These are trash, I would rather play tennis with a pickleball.
Terrible balls - dead bounce immediatelyTerrible balls. They barely bounce out of a freshly opened can and they get super fluffy very quickly. My club has been using them for usta match play and club leagues and I thought at first that it was just a one off. But it is not they have been bad every can I have opened for the last 10 matches. I am going to mention something to my club as well. I would never buy a case of these.
Pro Penn Marathon Plus the worstThe new Pro Penn Marathon Plus balls are the worst and mostly unplayable after a few minutes of hard hitting. They fluff up quickly and then become dead. Do not buy these balls. And Penn is marketing them in a totally misleading way. The cans are almost identical to the old balls and the only distinguishing characteristic is the small “+”. Other players are reporting the same thing. Penn needs to provide full refunds.
Did Wilson pay Penn to do this?Worst balls ever. Just converted to Wilson US Open balls. Bye bye Penn
So Much Worse Than Old VersionI cannot stress how much worse these new + balls are versus the old Pro Penn Marathons. The old ones were very lively. These feel dead out of the can and also fluff up really fast. I am extremely disappointed. I bought a case and have only used 4 cans so far and dread using the rest. Honestly I’d rather play with whatever the lowest/cheapest Penn balls over these Marathon+ balls. I wasted $140 or something…
AwfulI hardly write reviews, but felt compelled to write that these "upgraded" Marathon+ Pro Penns are maybe the worst balls I have played with. I was expecting the same Pro Penn XD Marathons I was used to, but right off the bat the balls felt dead. They play MUCH slower, the bounce is significantly less than its predecessor, and until I looked into this I thought that I had just received maybe a defective case off the pallet. But then realized its the 'new and improved' Marathon+. Would absolutely avoid these especially if you are accustomed to the prior Pro Penns which are excellent. Thankful for the great customer service from TW as always for helping with this matter.
Greatly ImprovedThe previous Marathon Extra Duty balls were rock hard and hard to control. I was given a can of these new Marathon+ balls. Playability is much improved and did not hurt my arm. The ball did not fluff up and the bounce was consistent throughout 3 sets of play. Players who take a full swing at the ball will appreciate the more comfortable feel and control. Players who take short swings and push the ball may not like this ball as it may not give them enough free power and depth.
These might be the worst Penns everNot sure how Penn got these so wrong, but they’re terrible. Dead out of the can. No bounce at all. So heavy they hurt your arm. Just a terrible experience all together.
Beware - NOT the Marathons you love!Zero stars. I quickly went on line and purchased these NOT noticing the new addition of “plus” and small “+” nomenclature/ mark in the picture and description. I just saw the classic Marathon name, blue label and gold cap that was positioned/merchandised on-line where I always bought them. Big mistake. I’m a huge fan of the original ProPenn Marathon Extra Duty’s (been using them for years) because I can get 3 or more hit sessions out of them. These bounce about 1” lower in a (admittedly non scientific) drop test upon opening….and they quickly begin to fluff up and pill up like a boiled wool sweater. They’re extremely hard and don’t come up on a normal rally bounce.
I struggled to use them for one hit and had to throw them away.
I want my money back but probably won’t get it.
Just be very careful to not order this model no matter how much it looks like the normal “Extra Duty Marathons “
More like Marathon minusI've gone through cases of the regular Marathons simply because they lasted long. The bounce wasn't great and they were hard. Eventually I went with US Opens, Yonex Tours, and settled on Dunlop GP's. These new Marathon 'plus' balls may be slightly softer with a tad better bounce, but they fluff up like a smurf doll and are very slow. Mine were made in China as well, not the Philippines as the Head rep in the video mentioned. Very disappointed. I still have 21 out of 24 cans left, but ordered a case of trusty Dunlop GP's. Life is too short to hit with crappy balls.
