Overview

The most popular string on the pro tour goes soft! Luxilon Alu Power Soft is part of the iconic ALU Power family of strings, many of which have achieved near cult status at the highest levels of tennis. This version is poised to reach a broader range of players as it is slightly softer and more comfortable than the standard ALU Power. Fans of Luxilon strings will be happy to know that it still manages to deliver the ultra precise and spin-friendly response that gives big hitters the confidence to crush the ball. Like the standard ALU Power, this softer version has great feel and should appeal to a wide cross section of intermediate and advanced players who want a very complete control string.

Great feel and controlSwitched from Alu Power Rough to this and it has been a surprise so far! This string has a softer feel but not at the expense of control. It also holds tension pretty well as a full bed poly. Highly recommend it to intermediate to advanced players who can generate power and prefer a softer string setup.

Stick with Original ALU PowerIMO this is nothing like regular ALU Power which is a great string. This version feels dead. Lack of control and power -- muted. Really don't like this string.

Previous Feedback

Comments: I usually play with ALU Power in a hybrid. I like ALU Rough in full bed, but it is hard on my arm when I'm sloppy with off-center hits. I was hoping ALU Power Soft would be softer than Rough, but no. I loved this string on the first hitting session, but it seemed to be less comfortable and felt dead on the next one. I recently tried a full bed of Yonex PolyTour Pro and it is significantly softer. I'll probably end up using PolyTour Pro for my stiff racquets and ALU rough for my other ones.

Comments: This is a great string. Really soft touch, what impressed me is the amount of power and spin that I get. I am a big hitter and was able to manage my power and spin at my convenience. Also, I am almost 40 years old, I can say that is saving my arm.

Comments: Adding this ALU Power version into my string rotation. I landed on Luxilon 4G and am going to rotate these in. Liked the soft feel and felt like I had more dwell time on the string bed than 4G. This string definitely offers more on the control end also. Liked that it still had the ALU Power response, but not as still as ALU Power or 4G. Stringing them at 56 pounds in my Pro Staff 97L Countervail.

Comments: Favorite ALU version. Has worked well in a number of frames, strung in the low 50s. Enough pace and spin for generating a heavy ball to cause damage. But, requires sound technique to tap into its spin potential from snap back. There is another gear to be found in this string when hitting well. The soft gives me a longer duration of playability over the standard Power version. Clean, crisp feel without being harsh. Currently playing it in a DR 98+, which helps boost the string power a tad. This added pop from the plus length frame blends well with the extra gear of spin, when tapped. My wish list would be for these same characteristics, with some added initial bite of a shaped string. Haven't quite found that one yet. So far, with the shaped strings I've tried, I lose something that I favor to have. End up back with ALU Power, specifically the soft.

Comments: This string is awesome! I'm using a hybrid with ALU Power Soft in the Mains at 52 lbs and NXT DURAMAX at 55 lbs. It plays a lot softer than the regular ALU Power which I've used before. I also compare this ALU Power Soft to Volkl Cyclone.

Comments: I changed from Luxilon Alu Power 16L string to this one. It is soft and the feel is great, easier on your arm too. Loved it.

Comments: Love this string! I use it in a hybrid in my Radical Pro with ALU Soft on the mains at 52 lbs and VS Team gut 17 at 54 lbs in the crosses. There is tension loss after 2-3 weeks of daily play. Expensive set up, but worth it. And I disagree with comments below, it definitely feels softer than ALU Power, etc.

Comments: I tried this string at 52 lbs in a 2013 APD. I usually use a hybrid with ALU Rough at a similar tension.Power is moderately high for a poly, but not excessive. The slight boost helped make for control and precision. A+ for me. Control is excellent. Great feedback and accuracy. Spin, I agree with Dan here. This is a round poly and it acts like one. A fully committed shot with appropriate form generates moderate spin, which adds to overall precision. However, on second serves and when trying to bend defensive shots into corners, you're not going to get a lot of help. The feel is "crisp" but "soft" is totally incorrect and misleading. This is not a soft string. It's also excellent at communicating impact shock unfortunately, making it unusable for me.Tension maintenance and playability, by my Tourna meter, ALU Soft looses tension rapidly, but, like other Lux products, power, feel, and control don't change that significantly with tension loss.

Comments: I typically use sharp edged polys. I have a pretty extreme Western grip, and rely on the ball and a high launch angle to get net clearance especially on my forehand side. The TW University gave this string a 6.9. And the regular ALU Power a 4-something. I was expecting major spin from this one, but it is completely in line with a regular rounded poly in that dept. Same as reg alu in my opinion. So the string is not for me. I cut it out after only one use. Spin wise, it doesn't compare to the sharp edged polys like V Tourque, etc. However, for the good part. This string is basically as good as ALU Power, but with less shock on impact. Really nice predictable string. Definitely an improvement from ALU power. I would say that this string would be nice as a whole bed for more flat hitters. And it would really excel as a cross for gut. That is the honest truth.
