Personal Began playing tennis at age eight... Mother, Lynette, is South African and father, Robert, is Swiss and they met on a business trip... In 2003, initiated Roger Federer Foundation which supports disadvantaged children in South Africa and promotes sport for young people... Named ATP Player of Year, Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship award and ATPtennis.com fans' favorite in 2004.... Federer spends his off-court time playing cards, cricket, ping pong, other sports and sitting on the beach... Speaks English, German, Swiss German, French and some Swedish and Italian... 2011 Year In Review On 2 January, officially opened the 2011 ATP World Tour season by hitting balls with Nadal on a tennis court laid on the water of Doha Bay...Did not drop a set in five matches en route to winning the Doha trophy for the third time...Defeated Davydenko 63 64 in the final to become the first three-time winner in tournament history (since 1993)...It was his 67th tour-level title and marked the 11th straight year that he had won an ATP World Tour title... As second seed at the Australian Open, he fell to Djokovic in three sets in SFs...It ended a 15-match winning streak...During the tournament Federer improved to an Open Era-best 59-8 record in Melbourne...
