Overview

Volkl V-Star is one of the most comfortable co-polys available. This string is a great option for the player who wants the spin and durability benefits of a poly-based string but not the high stiffness and off-center shock for which the breed is known. V-Star also has above average power for a control string. All in all this is a great option for the player transitioning into a poly-based monofilament. It's also ideal for all those poly veterans who want to give their tendons a very smooth ride. Try this 18 gauge version for MAXIMUM SPIN.

Favorite StringI was recommended Volkl V Star about 2 years ago and have been amazed how well these strings play and last, even the 18 gauge. It holds tension well and lasts for months. I play at a strong 4.5 level, am a USPTR professional and have competed in USTA tournaments and open tournaments for many decades. I'd recommend this string highly to anyone looking for a thin guard string that lasts.

Very nice stringThe 18g V-star pairs wonderfully with a 17g syn gut for those who don't like the string movement of a full bed of syn gut and prefer the crisper feel of a syn gut vs a multi. Setup will last around 15-20 hours strung at 55 or 57 lbs both ways. The softness of this poly allows it to be strung at the same tension as the syn gut. Works equally well in mains or crosses. Easy on the arm.

Comments: This is now my regular string. It is very, very soft and stretchy co-polyester string and I am aware of no other string like it. It is significantly softer and easier on the arm than other 100% polyester strings like Black Magic or Cyclone. It offers excellent control and power without feeling like a block of wood like I find other polyester strings to feel like. The 18g strings do not break for me and do not move on me like Mike says below. It does change in tension some fairly rapidly due to being so soft and stretchy -- you can string with more tension initially or just replace the string frequently given its cheap price. The string is like a hybrid between stiff and durable polys to multi-filament strings (that will move and break on you) -- it's like the best of both worlds.

Comments: This string plays very similar to Cyclone 18. It feels a little bit more crisp/more powerful than Cyclone 18 when freshly strung, but not too much. The problem of this string is it loses tension even faster than Cyclone 18. For Cyclone 18, it takes probably 8 hours before string starts move around. For Vstar 18, it only takes 3-4 hours and you will see the string move around much crayzier than Cyclone 18. For this reason, I don't think it's a good upgrade from Cyclone 18.

Comments: I have been playing with V Star 18g orange as a cross to VS Team 17g in a Prince Tour 100 16x18 at 55x50 lbs. My main necessity is comfort and I have finally found it with this set up. Now, there is less control against heavy hitters but I am ok with that as long as I don't hurt. Spin is very nice. Yes there is a loss of tension, but in my set up it is just in the crosses.

Comments: Feels like a softer, less harsh version of Cyclone. Good energy return, maybe too good for a higher-powered frame (I have it strung on a Pure Drive). Spin potential is fantastic, I'm just wondering how long the strings will last.

Comments: This string is a soft, control-oriented poly with medium-high power. It offers a good solid and soft ball pocket when it is fresh.
