Overview

Solinco Tour Bite is a polyester monofilament that provides excellent control and remarkable spin. This explains why it is extremely popular at the collegiate level. Our testers noticed immediately how well the shaped profile gripped the ball. This is not only a perfect string for players seeking more control and spin, but it also packs a punch for those who favor a heavy ball. Try this thin gauge for more spin!

Comments: I've used the 16, 17, and 18 gauge of the string and I really enjoy the 18 gauge. Prior strings I've used: Wilson Sensation (too soft), TopSpin Blue (dead), and Luxilon (too expensive). This string is half the price of Luxilon and more retention and more bite. I used full bed on my ProStaff 97 Autograph. It's great!

Comments: I tried this string after using the 17 gauge version, and I have to say I much prefer that to the 18. While the 18 gauge version maintains tension well, after a while it started getting stuck out of place, almost like a synthetic gut would do, and started losing that great snapback it once had. Because of this, the playability definitely dropped and I found the spin to have decreased tremendously as well. Would definitely recommend the thicker versions for a more consistent experience.

Comments: I decided to try this string based on my club pro's recommendation. I must say that I like it a lot. I have my Wilson Burn 100LS strung at 45 lbs with it. It is definitely softer and easier on the elbow than most co-polys. After taking a tension measurement in the center strings, there was no drop at all. I will continue to track this on a weekly basis to see if this continues. The price is very right with this string as well. Hopefully, this string will work well with my game. Being an older player, I need all the advantages I can get.

Comments: Excellent spin, control and durability. Currently using Tour Bite 18 mains with Gamma Syn 17 crosses at 61 lbs in a Volkl Tour 8 (NTRP 4.5). I get 4-6 hours out of a set of all Gamma, but strung in hybrid with the Tour Bite gives me 12-15 hours of play and reasonable tension maintenance before the crosses break. Tour Bite is just as good as Luxilon ALU Power rough for me, but cheaper by $6 per set! Highly recommend this string for use in a hybrid setup.

Comments: Yes, this is the best string for me so far. I highly recommended it. I have been playing with the Luxilon Timo string which is really good but more expensive. I strung one of my racquets with the Timo the other with Tour Bite and I like the Tour Bite better as it is softer for your arm so you can hit a lot harder and still feel good.
From:Tommy, 6/13

Comments: This string is about as durable as stringing my racquet with dental floss. I got one match and 2 practices in before this string broke (more like snapped) - I was shocked!
From:John, 5/13

Comments: I played with Tourna Big Hitter Black 7 for a while until it started loosing playability quickly. This string. is superb. They really are heaven strings and have a very soft string bed and tons of bite. Favorite string now for me!
From:Kacey, 4/13

Comments: This string in 18 gauge is the best. It is the first full poly I could use in my Pure Drive. The square string gives more topspin than you can imagine. Good for 2 weeks or until you can break it. Mine has been very durable.
From:Bill, 1/13

Comments: Good stuff. It's crisp, has good bite, and it lasted okay for 18 gauge, like 4 matches or so. So, I would need at least 17 gauge which has me thinking I have to switch string because I have elbow problems and the 18 gauge meant a little softness, but it broke way too early to consistently play with it, which was to be expected. The look was nice and it just felt like quality stuff. Maybe if I was a high school kid that didn't have arm issues.
From:Josh, 10/12

Comments: For me the Tour Bite 18 is a dream. I play with a Head YOUTEK Instinct 18x19. With a tight string pattern, it's nice to have a thin string to really grab the ball. I have tried a few different string combinations Solinco Outlast 18 and Big Hitter Blue Rough 17. This for me is the best. The added bite adds to my confidence on groundstrokes. No problem with stiff feeling.
From:Hugh, 4/12

Comments: When first strung the 18g tourbite is great. Excellent bite on the ball and good control factors even for recreational hitting. I found that after a few weeks and extended practice hitting (a few hours at a time) my forehands began to sound and feel flatter and travel farther, though not to my wishes. I am not sure of the properties of of poly strings and tension holding characteristics after repeated whacking. Syn gut or nylon strings may hold up better tension wise for a longer period of time. If restringing costs are not a concern the stuff is great.

Comments: THE BEST string ever it really bite the ball power control anda lot of spin shows a lot of crisp feeling I use this Solinco tour bite18 on the mains and black magic 17 on the crosses and this is the bestso far.
From:Marcos, 2/12

Comments: As in most poly, this is a pretty good all around strings. There are spin power and control. But tension maintenance sucks. It lasts no more than a week and I have to restring them.

Comments: I've been trying different strings to go with my Babolat AeroPro GT+. Settled on Technifibre X-One Biphase 17 strung at 60lbs and was getting tons of power, but the spin and control were still a bit lacking. Last night I tried a hybrid set-up with Solinco Tour Bite 18 on the mains at 60lbs and X-One Biphase 17 at 58lbs... Wow, what a difference! I had that feeling of knowing the shape and location of the ball right at impact. Outstanding spin, control and the Tour Bite 18 seemed to reduce the power level just enough (or add just enough spin) compared to a full bed of X-One Biphase 17 that I could swing away and know the ball would drop in. A previous reviewer stated loss of bite and tension within hours. I'm hoping to get 15 to 20 hours of play with these strings.

Comments: This is a follow up to my previous review comparing this string to MSV Focus Hex 17L. The string bed softened up after a good hitting session and felt more comfortable and more similar to Focus Hex, it still felt livelier than Focus Hex, but the spin production of the Tour Bite was starting to drop off at around 3 hours for me. Today, at about 4-5 hours it was starting to go dead. It no longer had that crisp, lively feel, power and spin dropped significantly. I had to swing harder than usual just to get the ball moving at a decent pace, spin was lacking and many shots that I thought would land in sailed long. I ended up having to play "pusher" on forehands to stay consistent. My hitting partner is a 5.0 and my backhand shot is usually faster than his forehand, today my harder backhands were still slightly slower than his forehands, and my volleys had no zip. The strings are not completely dead but feels like it will get there in about another hour or so. Pretty disappointed in this. In comparison, MSV Focus Hex costs less and usually lasts me a good 10-12 hours before suddenly going dead.

Comments: This string is softer than many other polys but not as soft and comfortable as I would expect, given the very low stiffness rating in TW's string database. I strung up two rackets of the same model at the same tensions, with Polystar Energy in the cross strings for both & compared it side by side to MSV Focus-Hex 17L (by the way, the database shows Tour Bite 18's actual gauge to be 1.18 and Focus Hex 17L's to be 1.19, almost no difference) and found a very slight touch more power and more spin. The differences were very, VERY slight. The bigger difference is feel, as the Tour Bite felt more firm, crisp & lively while MSV Focus Hex felt softer, more comfortable, and seemed to pocket the ball better. You can call me crazy for that last part if you want. I preferred the more comfortable Focus-Hex, as polys that are too stiff cause me occasional slight arm pains. Also Focus Hex is very inexpensive in a reel, less than half the price of a reel of Tour Bite. It is a very good string with good power and very good bite/spin at a medium firmness, and price is okay.

Comments: Frankly speaking before trying this string, I only go for big names like Luxilon. I was recommended this string because I am looking for more power by remaining the same spin level. Personally I can generate more spin than average players. The problem I need to solve is my ball speed. This is a square shape string and theoretically it can generate more spin than the round shape string, but that is only theoretically speaking. Actually the spin generation from this square shape string is lower than my expectation because I already get used to Luxilon string, I can say this spin generation is lower than most of the Luxilon (regardless of model) with the same thickness. But in terms of power, it is superb. By using this string, my ball is deeper and almost closed to the baseline, my spin dropped (obviously dropped but still same as average players because I can generate more than normal players), speed is at least 15% increased. Personally I believe there is no best or worst string, only having suitable or non-suitable string. If your spin generation is more than average, and look for ball speed in order to give your opponent less response time, then you have to try this string. If you happened to try ISOSPEED black string before, I can tell you this string is just like combining ISOSPEED with Luxilon string. It inherits 75% of the speed and power from ISOSPEED and 75% of the spin generation from Luxilon.

Comments: This is the best string I've played with. By far the best for spin, it doesn't reduce power at all. The only problem is that it breaks quickly, as you might expect.
From:Bob, South Bend, Indiana, USA. 4/11

Comments: Like it a lot. Much better than any other spin string out there, including barb wire. This string also had good power and control. Very crisp feeling.
From:Christopher, Exeter, NH, USA, 10/10

Comments: This is a good string that plays well and really bites the ball. I like it a lot and plan to use it again.
