Best tennis strings for spin and control

Best strings for spin and control

Add loads of spin and substantial amounts of control to your gear setup with these six strings. All of these choices boost the ability to tame powerful shots and generate impressive rotations on the ball.

Available in two colors, Wilson Revolve is crisp and allows for nice ball pocketing. This polyester is firm, lending itself to a dead response while maintaining its tension. This string rewards players for staying aggressive on big swings without having to worry about the ball flying long.

It is no surprise that Luxilon ALU Power Soft is softer than regular ALU Power, but we do not find it to be a dramatic difference. This polyesterŐs softness feels similar to that of ALU Power Rough, but with a smooth and slick response. This cultivates a great balance of spin and control. We recommend stringing this at your preferred polyester tension. The three-week life span of this string is the cherry on top.

4G Soft, also from Luxilon, offers exceptional feel and ball pocketing. For a polyester, it executes effective touch at the net. Although it does not hold tension quite as well as regular 4G, the access to spin and control is top notch.

Solinco Tour Bite Diamond Rough is a very textured polyester with defining grooves. We find this string to be a bit too grippy for stringing at lower tensions. When strung up in the range of 52-55 pounds, this string provides massive amounts of spin and control. The rough surface and the grooves grab the ball particularly well. It grants players a solid connection to their targets and does not skimp on the firm, classic Tour Bite feel.

YTex Square-X is a durable square shaped monofilament that yields spin and comfort. The edged profile grabs the ball and provides ample potential for spin and control.

Lastly, Head Hawk Touch is designed for outstanding ball feel and a low powered response. For power hitters looking to add control to their game, this is a great way to go. The firm and dead feeling pairs well with a lower tension range, allowing the string to open up and feel slightly more lively. Dropping tension with Hawk Touch will not compromise the outstanding control and spin levels of this string.
