Overview

Formerly called RPM Blast Rough

RPM Rough
is the textured version of RPM Blast, one of the most popular co-polys ever made. Like the standard RPM Blast, this string is a co-polymer monofilament with an octagonal shape and a special cross-linked silicone coating. RPM Rough is perfect for aggressive players who like to attack the ball with long, fast strokes. Our playtesters found it a tad softer and more powerful than the original RPM Blast, resulting in a slightly more penetrating shot. With its grippy surface, you'll find plenty of bite for bringing the ball down with spin. The durability is also quite high, making this a great option for string breakers.

Comments: Used RPM Blast Rough a couple of times in a Head Graphene Rev Pro at 53 lbs. I usually play with a Pure Strike 16*19 with a shaped poly around the same tension. First, RPM Rough acts very differently from the original RPM for me. The original RPM was high spin, high control, low powered and felt more comfortable the faster I swung. To my surprise, RPM Rough was pretty powerful for a poly, especially for an RPM line string, so it was easy to access depth without much effort on groundstrokes. The control wasn't as great but not difficult to have when hitting with topspin. The spin, as expected, was very easy to hit with. It really felt like the string grappled onto the ball on each shot. Comfort was also decent for a poly on all shots. Only gripe would be a lower control level and somewhat lack of feel on touch shots. Pretty good as an intro to polys but not for players who enjoy the controlled feel of the original RPM Blast.

Comments: As with most polyester strings, I found this string to be lacking in touch and feel, but it did have a fair amount of spin potential. I feel like the string played better at lower tensions (even into the low 40s). I was able to continue hitting heavy topspin without the loss of control. Since I play the net frequently, I feel like the string is best suited for players who enjoy grinding it out from the baseline.

Comments: Tried it in a Wilson K-factor 100 at 52 lbs. Amazing results. Loads of spin and control. Good on serves. My unforced errors have gone down and the attack on short balls is easier with the spin. I played with Red Code up until now. No longer. Going to stick with this string forever. Best thing that has happened to my tennis game.

Comments: To me, these strings are a little better than RPM Blast on all levels. More comfortable, less stiff, slightly more power, and tons of spin. I never thought I'd switch from Pro Hurricane Tour, but these were so good that I decided to give them a shot. I strung my Babolat Pure Drive Tour+ at 54 pounds.

Comments: A very good alternative for the Luxilon Alu Power Rough! I changed after several years from the heavy Head Youtek (which I strung with Luxilon Original Rough) into the even heavier Pro Staff Autograph 340gram, but the original felt like a block in combination and with Luxilon Alu and I had instant arm problems, but not with this string. Even for intermediate players, I think this string gives much feel and power and some extra spin of-course.

Comments: Good but not as good as RPM. Seems like it has less control.

Comments: Insane spin and pop! I've used Natural Gut (mains) + RPM Blast 18g (crosses) for several years not. This combo has been given the nickname "the Ferrari of all string combinations." Everyone who's used my racquet comments on how good this hybrid feels. Well, RPM Blast Rough mixed with the Natural Gut feels even better. More spin, creating a heavier ball with more control. Oh, and this the Fluorescent colors look awesome, too.

Comments: Not at all like Blast. No feel. Not an enjoyable string.
From:Rod, 3/12/17

Comments: Great string, very plush feel and lots of grip on the ball from the texture. The power is plentiful for a co-poly and the spin helps bring the ball back down into the court. I've been pretty happy with this string so far, it may replace Cyclone Tour 16 moving forward.
