Overview

Alpha Gut 2000 offers the comfort and power of a premium multi for less than half the price. It also has impressive durability for a multifilament. This string provides solid performance to players with shorter strokes, and there's some blistering pace available to those who swing fast. Alpha Gut 2000 will add comfort to a hybrid or stiff racquet. This is one of the best value strings we sell.

  • Gauge: 17/1.28mm

I wouldn't change a thing except the name!I've used the string over the last 10 years as well as other multi filaments and this string for the price is awesome! I generally use it in the mains and a cheaper syn gut in the crosses but I just broke a full set in a backup racquet and will string again that same setup. Using the 17 gauge I get good durability, especially in an 18 x 20 racquet and have ample spin even though until a year ago I was always playing with 16 x 18 racquets for the 20 years previously. One of the best features of this string is that there's virtually no break in period needed. But the name makes it sound old and dated. Maybe it was cool to call it that in 1997 but now it needs something a modern name, like Alpha Dog Infinity and then update the packaging, then you can sell it for $12.99 and it's still a good deal at that price (marketing peeps at Alpha take note!)

Great ValuePretty good feel, durability is ok/par for the course. The value is great compared to the SEVERELY overpriced NXT, Wilson is a total ripoff. This also frays less, although it could use a better coating for string movement but if you string it lower, there is no way any multi-filament will not move and yes, it is a 17G multi. You cannot criticize its durability unless it pops in 15 minutes. You want durability, go with poly or a least a 16g.

Comments: Excellent string! Excellent feel. Comfortable, moderate power, good spin. Outstanding durability with the black color. I will try the 18 gauge black next time.

Comments: Alpha Gut 2000 is a very comfortable string with some good power available. However, it loses tension pretty quickly, so take this into consideration when selecting your desired string tension. Unless you are using it in a 18x19 or 18x20 frame, you will need to straighten your strings after each long rally, as the string has very little snapback characteristics and lacks the silky coating many newer multifilaments have to assist with string movement and snapback. If you are a full western, baseline spin machine playing with an open pattern frame, you're gonna burn through Alpha Gut pretty fast. The string is best suited to moderate stroke style, flat ball hitters, and doubles players who need a softer feeling string for comfort, yet one which also has some good controllable power too. You could also use it as a cross string in a hybrid setup as long as it is paired with a smooth, not shaped or textured, polyester string.

Comments: Very nice balance of comfort, power, and durability. No arm or elbow issues in a Head Extreme at 56 pounds.

Comments: Out of necessity I bought a pack of Technifibre X-one Biphase. I had never bought Technifibre string before and found I loved the X-one Biphase for it's incredible feel and comfort. It's durability was as good as I could expect from a multi for my big spin swing style. Then I realized it was normally sold around $20/set. I bought syngut and affordable polys sets of strings for the tennis team I coach, and for price, one set was the Alpha Gut 2000 17 gauge. I honestly thought it was a syngut when I threw it in my shopping cart. But when I was stringing one of my player's racquets with it, I noticed it felt a lot like the expenisive Technifibre X-one Biphase. I decided try it myself. I find it plays a lot like the X-one Biphase. I checked the stats on TW and they are quite similar. If you're looking for a comfortable string or one that has a lot of feel with adaquet spin potential, then either the Alpha Gut 2000 17g or Technifibre X-one Biphase 17g should be a consideration. Of course, the Alpha is about 1/4 ro 1/3 the price. I am a 4.5 singles and doubles player using the Wilson Blade 18x20 CV. I string both sets at 57 lbs. I find the durability to be reasonable even with my heavy topspin baseline shots and when dealing with big hitters.

Comments: My son has played with the natural color version of this string and will get 10 days out of each string job consistantly. I just bought 3 packets of the black version of this string the previous week and my son blew through each set within 1 to 3 hours. I am not sure if we got a bad batch or what the difference is with the black version versus the natural version, but its durability is certainly in question. If you like this string, stay with the natural color as it is more durable.
